In year two at Capdau STEAM School, I wanted to focus less on traditional talk therapy, and more on the expressive arts, play and somatic therapies. We know that so often, therapy can be stigmatizing, unsafe and sometimes even harmful. Often, there are no words for the experiences we go through. Art, music, and psychoeducation can fill in the blanks. Yoga, mindfulness and movement can offer whole person healing that doesn't require words.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, we are off to an amazing start! My clients are utilizing the creative materials to express their emotions and the books that were purchased are informing my treatment planning for the next few months. \r\n\r\nTruly, because of you, I am able to continue to provide a safe and informed healing space!","fullyFundedDate":1755207159015,"projectUrl":"project/building-a-safe-and-informed-counseling/9487027/","projectTitle":"Building a Safe and Informed Counseling Space!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Jen LeCompte","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9775038_orig.jpg?crop=451,451,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1727119957231","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9775038"},{"teacherId":2097186,"projectId":5759406,"letterContent":"COVID was very devastating to the world. We had to revamp our lives to adapt to this deadly disease. During COVID, the students were not permitted to go outside for recess. Therefore, teachers had to be creative to give the students a little outlet and downtime from daily instruction. The Recess Bags came in handy for the students to unwind a little by playing with playdoh, handheld electronic games, etc. Recess was one of the few \"normal\" moments in students' school day. These bags offered fun, choice, and creativity, helping relieve stress and anxiety. Gave students ownership over something personal and consistent during an uncertain time. By assigning each student their own set of materials, schools minimized sharing and followed COVID safety protocols. Reduced the need for constant sanitizing of shared recess equipment. Recess bags kept students active, engaged, and safe during a time when so much was restricted. They protected health while still supporting essential play, social-emotional learning, and normalcy during the pandemic.","fullyFundedDate":1635179064202,"projectUrl":"project/recess-bags/5759406/","projectTitle":"Recess Bags","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Proctor","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2097186_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1517203869043","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2097186"},{"teacherId":9563543,"projectId":8442188,"letterContent":"The donations we received for this project were greatly appreciated. Our students were able to remain organized and improve their education through your generosity. The students utilized each and every item to improve their study skills and grades. Each day we use the binders and whole punchers for organization. We do not receive normal textbooks in science, so folders were not holding all of our documents. Each 9 weeks we begin a new topic; the dividers help with structure for class and home. My students were using beat up binders that I had been using over the last several years. I did not have enough for all of the scholars. With much excitement, they smiled and clapped as I unboxed our new items. \r\n Your support has increased our overall scores and assisted in several students meeting their target goals. This has boosted their confidence levels, furthermore, it makes learning more fun, student engagement is heightened, and I can only assume scores will improve in the future. Your decision to donate to my science class has had a tremendous impact on each student and their love of science. I am so excited for the next 9 weeks and the future of my scholars.","fullyFundedDate":1727197034904,"projectUrl":"project/classroom-essentials/8442188/","projectTitle":"Classroom Essentials","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Prevost","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9563543_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1721101842571","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9563543"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_17106","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":467,"numTeachers":34,"percentFrplEligible":88,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":90,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":7,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"13.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":44.8,"schoolId":17106,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Pierre A Capdau Charter Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Pierre A Capdau Charter Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/louisiana/orleans-parish-school-district/p-a-capdau-charter-school-elementary/17106"}
