Because of you, our office has transformed into a true hub of compassion where students feel safe, valued, and understood. Your contributions have made a meaningful difference in the daily lives of our students.\r\n\r\nWe are already putting the new resources to use in powerful ways. During a recent small-group counseling session, students gathered in the flexible seating area—some choosing beanbags, others soft chairs—and participated in a listening circle. With fidgets in hand and a calm, welcoming environment around them, students opened up about personal challenges and practiced truly hearing one another. One student shared that it was the first time they felt comfortable enough to speak honestly, while others responded with empathy and support. Moments like these are helping students not only feel seen, but also learn how to see others.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first experienced the new materials, their reactions were immediate and heartfelt. Many expressed excitement and relief, commenting on how \"cozy\" and \"calm\" the space felt. Some students who are usually hesitant to engage were drawn in by the inviting atmosphere, while others gravitated toward the snacks and fidgets, visibly relaxing as they settled in. It was clear right away that these resources were meeting both emotional and physical needs.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we are continuing to build on this foundation of empathy and compassion. In upcoming counseling lessons and wellness groups, students will focus on extending kindness beyond our space—identifying ways to support peers, practicing small acts of care, and reflecting on how their actions impact others. They will continue sharing weekly reflections on how they've shown empathy, and we will celebrate those moments together. Our goal is for students to carry these skills throughout the school, creating a ripple effect of compassion in our community.\r\n\r\nThank you again for making this possible. Your kindness is not only supporting our students today—it is helping shape a more compassionate tomorrow.","fullyFundedDate":1767150547148,"projectUrl":"project/a-space-for-compassion-building-empathy/9855954/","projectTitle":"A Space for Compassion: Building Empathy on Our Campus","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. McNeil","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9813184_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1729904053394","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9813184"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_12411","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":498,"numTeachers":20,"percentFrplEligible":94,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":74,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":15,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"24.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":64.4,"schoolId":12411,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Fisher Middle High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Fisher Middle High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/louisiana/jefferson-parish-schools/fisher-middle-high-school/12411"}
