In fact, the cheerful colors have inspired so much happiness that many of the children have even started wearing smiley face shirts and accessories to match the bright energy of our new carpet!\r\n\r\nDuring our language arts block, this cozy gathering area serves as the anchor for our community. We gather closely together for shared reading, phonics lessons, and interactive storytelling. Having a defined, comfortable space allows every student to sit comfortably, focus completely on the speaker, and actively participate in group discussions and letter-sound games without distractions.\r\n\r\nThe carpet is just as impactful during our math lessons, especially when we dive into addition. Instead of sitting at traditional desks, students pair up right on the colorful smiley faces to explore math concepts through hands-on partner games. Working side-by-side on the rug, they use manipulatives like counting bears and cubes to physically combine groups, acting out addition equations together. Hearing their excitement as they count out loud, collaborate with their partners, and successfully solve addition problems on the rug is truly rewarding.
