Our data has become increasingly and significantly accurate and we are able to use programs for students that cannot otherwise access typical pencil/paper activities. Given this software, the transition between iPads is seamless and allows staff to use different ones in case of malfunctions. I want to first say thank you for donating to my students. I will have pictures of the items and of us reading together (but the children will be blurred out), and of some of the items your donations have brought to my school. \r\n\r\nThese texts that were donated do a lot of work. Mouse Paint teaches about primary and secondary colors, bringing both reading and art together for a cross curriculum lesson. Chika Chika Boom Boom (my student's favorite book, so thank you all so much) teaches about the alphabet and it's order, it also helps with letter recognition. The Chika Chika Boom Boom book we have here also has the coconut tree and felt letters the children can stick onto the tree, which is a lot of fun for our pre-schoolers to take the letters and place them on the tree. They had a delightful time singing \"chika chika boom boom\" and an even better time when we shook the tree and, you'll never guess it, the letters did not fall off! The cheers were very very loud.\r\nAnother fun little thing is that my pre-schoolers will see me, almost every day now, and say \"CHICKA CHICKA BOOM BOOM\" at the top of their lungs (we're working on volume control). This is, crazily enough, their favorite book. I thought it would be If you Give a Mouse a Cookie, but that shows what I know!\r\n\r\nOther titles, like Down by the Bay, teach singing and call back. \r\n\r\nMy classroom is not a classroom. I am in an open space library, almost like a hallway in the center of the school. The library is passed through by all ages of students, and I get to see them all every day. Reading takes place in a reading circle, surrounded by book shelves, where I can see all the kids, and they can see me. \r\n\r\nWhile these books are primarily for my pre-school students, their older siblings have come in and played with the Mouse from the cookie book, the tree, and the Big green monster. They've been great reading aides, but also wonderful ways to reach out to students having tough days. I have a second grader who, on a particularly sad day for him, sat on one of my sofa's and hugged the mouse, and told him his problems. Later he saw the book, and wanted to read it.\r\n\r\nI also have students who struggle with life skills like shoe tying. Many of my students, pre-k to fourth, even some fifth graders, cannot tie their shoes! This surprised me, and I asked for shoe tying books to combat that problem. I'm happy to report that many students have learned how to tie their shoes, and the books have been a great hit. I use them in story time, but also at recess for kids to practice with. \r\n\r\nIn my library I am always encouraging learning of all kinds, be it emotional, social, practical, or educational. These books have started a great foundation for my students!","fullyFundedDate":1728015978167,"projectUrl":"project/early-childhood-literacy-and-play/8720875/","projectTitle":"Early Childhood Literacy and Play!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. V","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8990356"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_15700","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":572,"numTeachers":25,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":64,"percentWhite":8,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":22,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"22.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":47.5,"schoolId":15700,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Jefferson Terrace Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Jefferson Terrace Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/louisiana/east-baton-rouge-parish-public-schools/jefferson-terrace-elementary-school/15700"}
