Our kindergarten students have been working hard to learn letters and sounds as well as isolating letter sounds in words. They have used the alphabet tubs to name the objects (which has expanded vocabulary) and make the sound they hear at the beginning of the word when naming each object. \r\nThey have created a game called \"Alphabet Soup\" with the miniature figures and tubs. They place all of the objects into a common bowl (to make the soup) and take turns choosing items from the common bowl, naming the object, isolating the initial sound, and matching it to the individual bowls with corresponding letters. They ask to play alphabet soup almost daily. \r\nThank you for your support in providing exciting and engaging materials for our classroom. We have used the chart to monitor, count, and compare numbers for daily attendance. We are using the dice poppers during math academic learning centers for students to develop fact fluency with a variety of number/quantity games. They enjoy popping the popper to determine how many objects to count and which number to display...oh!! the excitement of dice! We will use the magnetic money as we learn the names of coins and their values. The number paths will be used to further develop fact fluency and determining and comparing number values. Hands on materials are so engaging. They are learning so much from these non fiction issues that cover a variety of science and social studies topics. They are eager to use the materials at every opportunity offered to them. The projectors are chosen regularly as a free choice tool during art times, free time, and sometimes during our science times (with light and shadow as the focus). My kindergarten students are benefiting particularly from the message maker buttons as they are currently being used as directions for independent learning centers. If the student forgets the directions for an activity, they simply press the button for a repeat. It lessens the\"off task\" times because the use the button and get right back to work. \r\nThe rainbow visual timer has also been critical for efficiency. Most kindergarten students don't yet know how to tell time or even concepts of time intervals like \"10 minutes\" but this visual representation of time is meaningful to them. They can see in a non-standard measure for them how much time remains in a task. I am looking forward to using the highly engaging and FUN materials for learning activities in our classroom. We will use them for STEM activities, encoding and decoding words, segmenting sounds, and building words and sentences. They also work wonderfully as individual dry erase boards.
