Currently, I am on my planning period, sitting in my classroom, looking around at the space I was able to curate with your help. Everywhere I look, I see your faces in the supplies you were able to grant me. Instead of lamps, or Expo markers, or seat cushions, I see you. I am overwhelmed by the depth and support that my village has shown me these past several years, and everyday I am reminded that I am not alone in this endeavor. \r\nSince your donations arrived at the end of last year, last year's students were able to experience the bulk of your blessings. I will never forget the day those big boxers showed up at my classroom door, and my 4th period got to unbox everything. They were so excited, gasping at every item being pulled out. I got to watch as their faces lit up and I realized just how much having a comfortable and safe learning space truly meant to these students.\r\nI am now in my third year of teaching, 12 days into the school year. I can already tell that this year's students are a special bunch as they have already expressed gratitude for the items that they now have access to--because of your help. You see, what they have now is not just sharpened pencils, or file folders, or seat bands--they have a greater access to learning. When a child is supported and given the tools they need to succeed--or even simply offered the tools they might need in the future, they are given a sense of safety and security. So many students have already said this year that my classroom feels safe to them. I'd like to think that that is not because of the cozy atmosphere, lamp lighting or the more shallow things like that--instead, I hope it is of because the stocked student center, caddies filled with everything they could need, and a full and overflowing classroom library.\r\n\r\nAgain, thank you so much. I am forever indebted to your generosity.","fullyFundedDate":1774974058600,"projectUrl":"project/great-expectations-and-even-better-supp/10166386/","projectTitle":"Great Expectations (And Even Better Supplies!)","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Kesten","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10468732"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_62093","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":888,"numTeachers":54,"percentFrplEligible":89,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":5,"percentWhite":79,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":9,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":5,"gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"16.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":83.0,"schoolId":62093,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about West Jessamine Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"West Jessamine Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/kentucky/jessamine-county-school-district/west-jessamine-middle-school/62093"}
