Some of my most vulnerable students, including those with limited communication skills, love interacting with the globes and maps. One student in particular uses the globe to calm himself when he becomes overwhelmed or upset. These wonderful resources have made the library an even more welcoming place for students with learning differences and those on the autism spectrum. I have many teachers who come and tell me stories of students who check out the atlases and learn about the different countries, places, and landmarks around the world, and love to share their knowledge with peers and adults.
