These choices help students recognize what they need to stay focused and engaged.\r\n\r\nOne of the most meaningful moments has been watching students discover that the classroom was designed with their individual needs in mind. They were excited to see the new seating and immediately wanted to try the different options. Rather than viewing movement as a distraction, students are learning that appropriate movement can be a tool that helps them focus and participate in learning.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue using these resources as part of our daily routines while teaching students how to make responsible choices about their learning environment. We will continue practicing self-regulation strategies, participating in collaborative learning activities, and using flexible seating to support focus and engagement. My students have been able to use hands-on materials to make challenging academic concepts easier to understand and more engaging.\r\n\r\nThe math manipulatives, base-ten blocks, place-value boards, fraction tiles, and money resources have given students opportunities to see and physically model concepts that can be difficult to understand through traditional instruction alone. Students are able to practice addition, subtraction, place value, fractions, decimals, and money skills in a more concrete and interactive way. The dry-erase boards have also encouraged students to practice, make corrections, and try again without feeling discouraged by mistakes.\r\n\r\nThe vocabulary resources have provided students with additional opportunities to practice grade-level words, build their vocabulary, and strengthen their reading comprehension. Having copy paper, markers, and other classroom supplies has allowed me to create individualized practice activities and materials that meet the different learning needs of my students.\r\n\r\nI have seen increased engagement and confidence when students are able to use these resources during instruction. Instead of becoming frustrated when a skill is difficult, students have more tools available to help them understand and work through the problem. In our special education classroom, headphones allow students to work independently by reducing distractions and providing access to tools like text-to-speech, which reads directions and content aloud. This helps students better understand their work and complete assignments successfully without constant adult assistance.\r\n\r\nStudents are especially excited about how hands-on and interactive the new materials are. Dry erase boards make learning more engaging by allowing students to write, draw, and practice skills in real time. Students enjoy being able to try answers, erase mistakes, and try again, which builds confidence and encourages participation. The punch cards and rewards system are also highly motivating, giving students clear goals and positive reinforcement for staying on task and demonstrating appropriate behaviors.\r\n\r\nCertain students have shown remarkable growth with these tools. Students who previously struggled to focus or complete work independently have benefited greatly from using headphones, as they can concentrate better and follow directions more easily. Students who are hesitant to participate verbally are more willing to engage when using dry erase boards, since they can show their thinking without pressure. My students were so excited to see the headphones coming out of the boxes. Our current classroom set of headphones are small, thin, and light and easily break at the earpieces. My students were most excited about the \"pillow\" that covers their ears. Most of my students are not able to purchase books from the book fair or retail stores to get the most recent \"hot\" novels that are out. This donation allowed me to purchase complete sets, or add missing books from sets we had, to complete our library! Students that had never read some of these graphic novels are now signing up on a \"waiting list\" to get their turn! They have even began to check out more genres from the school library and I really feel it is because of the exposure this grant has provided! \r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is a quiet time each day where students are sitting around the room, lounging if you will, enjoying a book! It is exciting to hear them sharing with each other the reasons they love a certain series and suggestions on which they should read next!
