We are a Title 1 school where many students live in conditions of poverty and do not have the financial resources for little extras that so many of us take for granted. Students love having their pictures taken and are often thrilled when staff pull out their phones or cameras to take pictures. Students beg to be included in the photos and they always want to see the pictures after they are taken. This got me to thinking about how few of our students are ever given a printed color picture of themselves or their friends at school. Some students are able to purchase school pictures or yearbooks but sadly many of our students simply cannot afford this little luxury. \r\n\r\nThroughout the school year I have been snapping photos of kids hanging out and having fun in the library during some of our special events. Right before holiday break I purchased some picture frames from The Dollar Tree and printed color pictures for the students. The looks of surprise and delight on their faces was simply mesmerizing - they were so grateful, proud and surprised to receive such a gift. One young lady had such an expression of delight and her eyes filled up with tears she was so touched to get a picture of herself in a frame. All of the students were excited to have a picture with their friends to share with their families at home. Many students exclaimed that they would be able to remember their friends for years to come because they now have a picture to help remind them.\r\n\r\nWe will continue to take pictures and print them on the color printer to give to students but students will also us the printer to create projects and online assignments that can be printed in color to decorate the library and celebrate their achievements. Without generous donors like you we would not be able to do this for our students.
