One of the most meaningful projects involved students creating simulated ostomies while learning about digestive disorders, colon cancer, and ostomy care. Students used the materials to build anatomical structures and better understand how ostomies function and how they impact a patient's daily life.\r\n\r\nThe activity allowed students to combine anatomy knowledge with empathy and patient-centered care. It transformed a complex topic into a hands-on learning experience that students could truly visualize and understand. Watching students engage in discussions about dignity, body image, and compassionate healthcare while working on the project was a powerful classroom moment.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, they were excited and immediately engaged. Hands-on activities always create energy in the classroom, but this project especially sparked curiosity and meaningful conversations. Many students commented that the activity helped them better understand what patients experience and made the lesson feel \"real\" instead of just something from a textbook.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, students will continue building on these lessons through additional anatomy labs, patient care simulations, and healthcare skill activities. These resources are helping us create a classroom environment where students learn not only healthcare skills, but also empathy, critical thinking, and confidence as future healthcare professionals.","fullyFundedDate":1769859099519,"projectUrl":"project/anatomy-in-action/9974167/","projectTitle":"Anatomy in Action","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Tammy Jones","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9128983_orig.jpg?crop=274,274,x0,y18&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1691424232005","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9128983"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_57927","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":763,"numTeachers":54,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":95,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":1,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":0,"gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"14.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":66.7,"schoolId":57927,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Clay County High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Clay County High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/kentucky/clay-county-school-district/clay-co-high-school/57927"}
