Your generous donation procured pots, pans, burners, utensils, and conductivity/pH meters, which are helping turn my classroom into a place where true investigation and analysis can happen! Through Harvard's Science of Cooking program, we are connecting everyday experiences with concepts such as thermal energy, energy transfer, chemical reactions, particle motion, etc. Our recent lessons about tea and butter gave students familiar examples to explore as they discovered how heating and cooling has an impact at the particle level! \r\n\r\nStudents were so excited when they saw the materials at their lab stations! They felt like real scientists completing experiments and collecting data. They beg to go to the cooking lab every day and love the time we spend in there doing hands-on work. Having this equipment gives them opportunities to move beyond reading about science and actually investigate it themselves, allowing for them to ask questions, make observations, and use their own evidence to explain what is happening. \r\n\r\nWe plan to wrap up our (thermal) energy unit in the coming weeks as we investigate syrup and popcorn, and then move on to chemical reactions (baking soda, yeast, cheese) in our second semester. Thanks for helping make this possible and investing in my students' learning. I'm truly grateful for your generosity and thoughtfulness.","fullyFundedDate":1785167618957,"projectUrl":"project/science-of-cooking-lab-set-up/10371714/","projectTitle":"Science of Cooking Lab Set-Up","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. V","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5004261_orig.jpg?crop=1242,1242,x0,y161&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1783631457014","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-v-science"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_50077","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":424,"numTeachers":33,"percentFrplEligible":92,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":3,"percentWhite":83,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":6,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":6,"gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"12.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":49.3,"schoolId":50077,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Bullitt Lick Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Bullitt Lick Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/kentucky/bullitt-county-public-school-district/bullitt-lick-middle-school/50077"}
