I was able to introduce our new Chompsaw to students this week for our sculpture unit! When I told them we had a new tool to use to cut cardboard, they were very intrigued. I showed them a tutorial from Chompsaw first, and saw their faces light up when they realized they would be able to use this power tool themselves! I revealed the new tool and they were so excited to try it out. The Chompsaw website has wonderful resources that I was able to use including tutorial videos, certificates and badges that students can earn after acquiring new skills. All students were able to quickly earn their first badge for cutting a straight line. They will continue to earn badges with each skill until they are \"Chompsaw experts\". \r\nI love that this tool empowers my students to make more precise cuts all by themselves. I believe with this newfound confidence, my students will be able to make the sculptures of their dreams, putting their skills and creativity to work. \r\nStudents will use the Chompsaw during our \"open studio\" time, and it will definitely come in handy for our annual valentines box sculpture project. For this project, students use found objects such as cereal boxes, and toilet paper tubes, to create a unique valentines box sculpture. They have to be decorative but also functional to open and hold treats. Every year students have surprised me with their creativity for this project, and I know the Chompsaw will take it to new heights. \r\nThank you all again for your support in making this happen for my classroom and all of my art students. We appreciate it more than you know!","fullyFundedDate":1754616439094,"projectUrl":"project/cardboard-creation-station/9513133/","projectTitle":"Cardboard Creation Station!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Trollman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7201614"},{"teacherId":7930240,"projectId":8961124,"letterContent":"From this project I was able to obtain more tuning forks and small mallets for them. These tuning forks help the students learn about sound waves. I only had 2 forks, so they had to take turns and that took forever. So, with your help I was able to get more meaning they get more time using the forks. The most fun they had was putting the fork in water and actually seeing how a sound wave moves. It made a mess, but they had tons of fun. And these tuning forks were different sizes, meaning they got to hear and see different sound levels. That meant the water did different things. Thank you again for supporting my students and giving them some fun for Science.","fullyFundedDate":1736269455462,"projectUrl":"project/see-the-learning-wave/8961124/","projectTitle":"See the Learning Wave","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Bevan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7930240"},{"teacherId":7930240,"projectId":8494414,"letterContent":"This was so great that you helped me get thus funded at this time. We have had a lot of indoor recess. So, my students have been able to use the book to make different origami items. Though they have found it hard to do, they still have had fun trying to make different things. They have really loved making things with the Perler beads. The mini iron is so helpful and easy to use. I just love seeing their creativity. They make these items for their family members and have been so excited to share them. Again thank you for supporting my students to get fun things to do during recess, they and myself are so grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1730924641442,"projectUrl":"project/creative-during-recess/8494414/","projectTitle":"Creative During Recess","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Bevan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7930240"},{"teacherId":7930240,"projectId":8940530,"letterContent":"The students had so much fun learning about tangrams. I showed the how they can be used to make a square and then how they can make pictures out of them. I loved seeing how creative they could be. I took a few pictures to show the animals they made. They asked to \"play\" with the tangrams at indoor recess. I wish you could have heard the conversations that came from this activity. The had fun showing each other the items they made. I had shown them some pictures at first to get them the idea. We haven't used some of the games yet that came with this project. But, I am planning on using them with our fractions section in Math and to keep them practicing their multiplication facts. I was creating cards to use for these games. Again thank you so much for your generosity in helping my students have some fun in Math.","fullyFundedDate":1732645401069,"projectUrl":"project/math-facts-anyone/8940530/","projectTitle":"Math Facts Anyone?","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Bevan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7930240"},{"teacherId":7930240,"projectId":8497016,"letterContent":"My students have loved seeing these items we received. I have two in particular that are high needs with autism. We received several weighted stuffed animals. The green elephant was the favorite with one of them. It definitely helped him calm down during a time of need. He sat with it all day. This was a great addition to my classroom for students like him that need that comfort. I thought it might not go so well with it being 4th grade, but it soothed him.\r\nThe other item that was a big hit was the sand motion art. My other student loved to just sit and watch it. He was getting agitated as well and this item calmed him. I am so thankful that you helped me get these items for my students. I just want to help them make the most of their day at school.","fullyFundedDate":1726790687596,"projectUrl":"project/teaching-students-ways-to-cope/8497016/","projectTitle":"Teaching Students Ways To Cope","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Bevan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7930240"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_57459","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":307,"numTeachers":24,"percentFrplEligible":92,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":8,"percentWhite":16,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":69,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"12.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":67.9,"schoolId":57459,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Pleasant Valley Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Pleasant Valley Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/kansas/wichita-public-schools/pleasant-valley-elementary-school/57459"}
