Teaching is tough, and any assistance is greatly appreciated. It is difficult to ask for financial help in a low income area, so being able to receive basic classroom materials from donors such as Kleenex, Lysol wipes, pencils, erasers, and candy for rewards, made it one less thing that I felt the need to purchase myself to keep my class running. The tissues and Lysol wipes have been especially useful during the winter months. Pencils and erasers disappear like magic daily, so having my own supply has been a lifesaver. Plus, a little bit of candy goes a long way to help encourage students to get to work!","fullyFundedDate":1764782130415,"projectUrl":"project/science-supplies/9808947/","projectTitle":"Science Supplies","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Katie Western","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9620103"},{"teacherId":5203892,"projectId":9235242,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, our students have been able to experience The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton in a meaningful and impactful way. This classic novel has allowed us to explore themes of identity, loyalty, and social class while helping students strengthen essential reading skills such as making inferences, analyzing character development, and identifying how conflicts shape a story. These lessons not only improve their comprehension but also encourage them to reflect on the world around them—how people treat one another and the importance of empathy.\r\n\r\nReading The Outsiders in our classroom has been dynamic and interactive. Students annotate as they read, participate in lively discussions about choices the characters make, and connect Ponyboy's story to their own experiences of friendship, belonging, and resilience. One student, who was initially reluctant to read, has shared how this book made them \"actually want to find out what happens next,\" while another has been inspired to start writing stories of their own. The energy in the room during reading time is exciting—students ask deeper questions, debate perspectives, and truly look forward to our next chapter together.\r\n\r\nYour support made this journey possible, and for that, we are incredibly grateful. Because of your kindness, The Outsiders isn't just being read—it's sparking conversations, inspiring students, and helping them see themselves in literature.","fullyFundedDate":1746648956925,"projectUrl":"project/changing-the-setting-keeping-the-messag/9235242/","projectTitle":"Changing the Setting, Keeping the Message","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Gonzalez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5203892_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1519677385067","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5203892"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_57446","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":599,"numTeachers":40,"percentFrplEligible":90,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":7,"percentWhite":19,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":68,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"15.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":59.3,"schoolId":57446,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Marshall Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Marshall Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/kansas/wichita-public-schools/marshall-middle-school/57446"}
