Together, we created a 4-foot-tall density tower with eight distinct layers, each representing a different liquid with its own color, viscosity, and density.\r\n\r\nThis project wasn't as simple as stacking liquids — we quickly learned that real science takes patience, precision, and troubleshooting. Not all our layers behaved as predicted because of additives changing density, forcing us to experiment, calculate, and adjust. Students tested and measured the densities of each liquid and several objects to see which would float, sink, or suspend in each layer.\r\n\r\nThe result was a tower that became more than just a visual — it's a daily reminder of how scientific inquiry really works. Students observed, revised, hypothesized, and tested and overcame even in the face of adversity when our layers didn't layer perfectly. They connected these lessons to STEM careers like chemical, mechanical, and petroleum engineering, where understanding fluids and density is critical in designing everything from pipelines to submarines.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, our classroom now proudly displays a mesmerizing eight-layer tower that captures the beauty and challenge of real-world science. It's a centerpiece that continues to spark curiosity, discussion, and pride every day.\r\n\r\nAnd science doesn't stop there — this project prompted even more questions and curiosity. Students are now eager to keep experimenting, asking why and what if, exploring the science behind every layer, and discovering that every answer leads to new questions. \r\n\r\nThank you for giving my students the opportunity to see that science isn't just learned — it's ongoing. It grows, it evolves, and it keeps us wondering.","fullyFundedDate":1760974080882,"projectUrl":"project/were-not-dense-just-science-obsessed/9789423/","projectTitle":"We're Not Dense, Just Science Obsessed!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Brown","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3150758_orig.jpg?crop=3072,3072,x0,y532&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1742399627805","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3150758"},{"teacherId":3744304,"projectId":9621422,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for helping us bring the Kindness Cart to life at our middle school! Comments like \"Wait, we can actually pick these?\" and \"You have Takis??\" filled the room. Honeybuns were a coveted item and quick to go, but students were excited and knew that even is a peer took something, they still had lots of options left. They immediately noticed the variety—fidget toys, cute plushies, cool pins, and favorite snacks—and started working even harder to reach their weekly goals. Students have been building up study habits of checking grades and deadlines and independently and actively tracking progress to ensure they are course to meet their goals. Our students, many of whom face significant challenges outside of school, are developing resilience and grit, one small win at a time.\r\n\r\nWe a using the motivation station as part of our end-of-year push, helping students finish strong and carry positive habits into the next school year. One student said, \"I wanted to go home, but now I want to stay.\" Another shared, \"This just made my day.\" That sentiment was shared by many, as students giggled, danced, and sang along to music that shifted from pop hits to playful favorites like Baby Shark and Gummy Bear. The fiber optic lights, disco balls, and neon decorations created a magical party atmosphere that made every student feel like their hard work had paid off complete with Capri-sun drinks that all students enjoyed. \r\n\r\nThroughout the year, these students have completed and passed over 250 iReady lessons and showed gains of over 400 points of academic growth on the diagnostics from the beginning of the year. Our highlights include 10+ miles in a single class period and over 5 miles in a period at the highest resistance level. The desk feature is amazing because kids can still work on their iPad's while cycling. In just 2 weeks, the bike has logged over 180 miles.\r\nThe dance button is used as an incentive on select work days as a treat for students who complete 3+ assignments in a class period. The kids are still a little leery of this item, mostly because I get excited and dance like a fool. Some kids like the button just to see me being goofy, but I think it will grow on the students and they will soon be dancing along with me in no time. \r\nThe last item was the pop darts and has been a huge success in increasing engagement and excitement for review in my classroom. We regularly review vocabulary in study hall, and students are excited for the opportunity to \"throw things in class.\" Students used to regularly choose vocabulary they knew, but the chaos effect of the darts means students often have to \"stretch\" their brains with unfamiliar terms they land closest too. Students are suddenly eager to look in their notes or in the book for the definition as we review vocabulary in our weekly bellwork activities. Students in my advisory have also been having fun using them as team builders and competitions between students during our fun team times. \r\nOnce again, thank you for the items, they have been amazing at helping getting kids moving and more active in the classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1737060033334,"projectUrl":"project/i-like-to-move-it-move-it/9046016/","projectTitle":"I Like to Move It, Move It!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Brown","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3150758_orig.jpg?crop=3072,3072,x0,y532&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1742399627805","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3150758"},{"teacherId":3744304,"projectId":8969141,"letterContent":"On behalf of our students and classroom community, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for your generous contributions toward providing candy and positive incentives for our classroom.
