When we started reading the book, we only had four copies of the novel, but thanks to your donations, by the time we were on Chapter 3, every student had a copy of the book in their hands. We are extremely grateful!\r\n\r\nThe fifth-graders who read this novel over the last few weeks have been immersed in the world of science fiction created by the incredible Madeline L'Engle. They were fascinated by the concept of \"It\", the mind-controling brain that controlled all the people on the planet Camazotz \"for their own good\". They also loved the beasts at the end of the story who were not able to speak, but were able to communicate through feelings. These outside-of-the-box concepts kept the students wanting to know more about the story!\r\n\r\nThe students greatly enjoyed the more realistic pieces of the novel as well. They identified closely with the main character, Meg, as well as her friend Calvin and little brother Charles. In the story, Meg grapples with insecurity, anger outbursts, and the absence of her father. Our students were able to recognize some of their own struggles through these characters which led to some in-depth discussions in our classrooms. We talked about abandonment, feeling outcast, emotions that get the best of us, and a host of other topics. \r\n\r\nAfter completing the novel study, last week the entire fifth-grade was able to attend a play of A Wrinkle in Time at a local arts theater. We all had a wonderful time, and it was the perfect way to culminate this novel study. Reading this book with the students sparked a love of reading and has encouraged them to read more! There are four more books in the Wrinkle in Time series, and our school library can't keep them in stock because our fifth-graders keep checking them out. Thank you for helping us encourage a love of literature in our students!","fullyFundedDate":1756319321238,"projectUrl":"project/a-wrinkle-in-time-book-sets/9574897/","projectTitle":"A Wrinkle in Time Book Sets","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Clock","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4925786_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1508805612735","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4925786"},{"teacherId":5850493,"projectId":8599829,"letterContent":"Thank you again for helping to fund this project for my students.
