These books have been an incredible addition to our classroom and have given many of my struggling readers something extremely important—the feeling of successfully finishing an entire book.\r\nFor students who struggle with reading, a traditional novel filled with long chapters and pages of dense text can feel overwhelming before they even begin. Novels written in verse have changed that experience for my students. The shorter pages, manageable amount of text, and poem-like format make reading feel much less intimidating. My students quickly discovered that they could move through the pages successfully, and they were excited by how much progress they could make in a short amount of time. Hearing a student say, \"I'm already this far!\" or watching someone realize that they are actually going to finish a book is exactly why these resources are so valuable.","fullyFundedDate":1736986032904,"projectUrl":"project/books-in-verse-are-not-a-curse/9046082/","projectTitle":"Books in Verse Are Not a Curse!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Butterfield","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1564676_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1460387138843","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/kbutterfield"},{"teacherId":1564676,"projectId":10385137,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support and for providing new literacy games for my classroom! Your donation has already made such a positive impact on my struggling middle and high school readers. Many of my students come to me with gaps in foundational reading skills, and these games give them an opportunity to practice those skills in a way that is engaging, interactive, and—most importantly—comfortable for their age.\r\nThe excitement was immediate when my students first saw the new games. Instead of viewing reading intervention as another assignment or worksheet, they were eager to sit down, play, compete, and learn together. We are using the games to strengthen important skills such as phonemic awareness, phoneme manipulation, decoding, word recognition, vocabulary, spelling, fluency, and comprehension. One of my favorite things has been watching students become so involved in a game that they do not even realize how much reading practice they are getting. Students who may normally hesitate to participate are talking about words, manipulating sounds, reading aloud, problem-solving, and encouraging one another.","fullyFundedDate":1787261200131,"projectUrl":"project/the-more-the-game-the-more-we-read/10385137/","projectTitle":"The More the Game, The More We READ!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Butterfield","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1564676_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1460387138843","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/kbutterfield"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_107715","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":150,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":67,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":66,"percentIndigenous":11,"percentLatinx":5,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":1,"percentMultiracialImputed":7,"gradesServed":"7 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":67.8,"schoolId":107715,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Baxter Springs Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Baxter Springs Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/kansas/baxter-springs-unified-school-district-508/baxter-springs-middle-school/107715"}
