With the new resources, we significantly expanded our student store, creating an engaging platform where students practice functional math and financial literacy. Beyond buying everyday rewards, students are now learning long-term budgeting strategies to save up for collective goals, such as hosting a class pizza party. Furthermore, the addition of organizational tools like labeled binder tabs has helped students separate graded work, monitor curriculum checklists, and manage daily task logs, instilling independence and personal accountability.\r\n\r\nThese foundational routines have directly translated into meaningful vocational growth. Students have mastered core job skills—including sorting, inventory stacking, precision labeling, vacuuming, cleaning and even simple task of shredding and using a paper cutter—while learning to navigate the complete employment process. Practice with application completion, combined with the ability to host local employers directly in our classroom for interviews, has built unprecedented confidence in our young adults.\r\n\r\nThe impact of this grant reaches far beyond our school walls. Out of 20 total students across my two vocational classes, seven have successfully applied, interviewed, and secured ongoing employment in our local community. I have also been able to take students out into our community and work alongside employees learning actual job skills. Your contribution did not just supply our classroom with materials; it opened doors to real-world career success and financial independence for our students.","fullyFundedDate":1774799868235,"projectUrl":"project/building-leaders-of-tomorrow/9949323/","projectTitle":"Building Leaders of Tomorrow","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Vinduska","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10377612_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1767012045360","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10377612"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_56662","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":456,"numTeachers":34,"percentFrplEligible":50,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":86,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":9,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":2,"gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"13.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":53.8,"schoolId":56662,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Abilene High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Abilene High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/kansas/abilene-unified-school-district-435/abilene-high-school/56662"}
