Our students do great work in bringing student journalism to West High School, but too often, their work is slowed down by missing or outdated accessories. No extra camera bag? Students can't safely use the equipment. Only one SD card reader? Photos can't be uploaded from home and deadlines get delayed. Wobbly tripod? The footage is blurry. These little things make a big difference in how much (and how well) our students can create. Now, thanks to your generosity, these are problems of the past. \r\n\r\nThe students have been most excited having microphones for interviews. Using professional equipment helps our students feel more professional in their coverage and their work. I have seen their confidence grow in how they approach and talk with their sources. While our resources may at times be limited, this funding, such as lens cleaning kits, helps us keep our equipment and resources in the best shape possible. By providing an SD card for each of our student journalists, it gives them more autonomy and control for creating content for our publications. Each card tracks all of the photos taken on a camera. Even though we share cameras and equipment, students are able to quick swap out their card and keep ownership of their photos. Last year we would constantly have to ask \"who took these photos?\" when an SD card wasn't cleared. This year, that is a problem no more. \r\n\r\nThis year alone, we have taken 220,000 photos using these SD cards and we still have a few weeks left in the year! This is a step up from previous years and I think a big part of that is our new SD cards.
