As a teacher, I desired this book to give my students an example of using French for real communicative purposes. The students are also able to apply what they have learned while reading this book. \r\n\r\n\"Je suis Pierre\" fits almost perfectly with our curriculum. After having learned some vocabulary about family members and some simple adjectives and structures for describing people, we were ready to start reading. Students were able to apply content they had already learned from the beginning of the semester in addition to recently learned content. The book uses some new vocabulary and structures that the students have not learned yet, but, because of the illustrations and context, the students had no trouble figuring out what they were reading. I think they were surprised at how much they really knew! I am using the book to help \"teach\" the students more vocabulary and structures about describing people and their likes and dislikes. It is much more enjoyable than grammar/vocabulary lessons and worksheets. \r\n\r\nReading the book \"Je suis Pierre\" has given my students the opportunity to practice all four language learning skills – reading, writing, listening, and speaking. We read the book together in class or sometimes, alone or with a partner or small group. I can project the book to the front of the room, so we are able to go over new vocabulary or structures and check for comprehension. Students have been able to practice their listening and speaking skills by describing different images from the book to a friend and then drawing or labeling an image that corresponds to what they heard. Students have practiced their writing skills by creating a mini book about themselves in the same format as \"Je suis Pierre.\" \r\n\r\nUsing this book in class has been a fun and interesting experience for me and for the students. It has really boosted their confidence in French. I am grateful to Donor's Choose and our special donors for granting us this learning opportunity.","fullyFundedDate":1729255243642,"projectUrl":"project/build-communication-skills-in-french-thr/8699398/","projectTitle":"Build Communication Skills in French Through Reading!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Sieren","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9704756"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_51353","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1499,"numTeachers":107,"percentFrplEligible":42,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":7,"percentWhite":76,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":5,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"14.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":14.3,"schoolId":51353,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Stephen Hempstead High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Stephen Hempstead High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/iowa/dubuque-community-school-district/hempstead-high-school/51353"}
