We are in a low-income school and many of our students can only dream of using technology like this. Not only has it been beneficial with them recording speeches, meditation brain break, get extra help with ACT practices or making an art project.\r\n\r\nStudents are able to celebrate their accomplishments while following the schools' technology policy. They are also using this technology to write up school announcements that they say over the intercom in the morning. The snacks are also a great added bonus that we cannot thank you enough for. They can focus because they aren't starving. ; )","fullyFundedDate":1770474157692,"projectUrl":"project/bringing-technology-and-food-to-the-clas/10082903/","projectTitle":"Bringing Technology and Food to the Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Nolen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10213828"},{"teacherId":10214884,"projectId":9639662,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, our Brain Health Room has become a space where students can reset, refocus, and return to learning with confidence. The fidgets you provided are used daily as part of our brain break routine—students are able to choose a tool that helps them regulate their emotions and manage stress in a healthy way. One powerful moment came during a particularly challenging day when a student, feeling overwhelmed, chose a fidget, took a few quiet minutes in the room, and was able to return to class ready to participate. These tools are giving students real strategies they can use not only in school, but beyond.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, students were immediately curious and excited. Many of them had never had access to a variety of fidgets before, and it opened up meaningful conversations about brain health and self-regulation. What stood out most was how quickly students began to understand that these weren't just \"toys,\" but tools to support their well-being. They've taken ownership of the space and are respectful, intentional, and appreciative every time they use it.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we are continuing to build on these skills by integrating brain health lessons into our classrooms and encouraging students to identify which strategies work best for them. Our goal is to help students develop lifelong coping skills and normalize conversations around mental health. Because of you, our students feel supported, empowered, and better equipped to succeed—thank you for making such a meaningful impact in their lives.","fullyFundedDate":1762437290124,"projectUrl":"project/brain-health-room-needs-fidgets/9639662/","projectTitle":"Brain Health Room Needs Fidgets!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Rowley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10214884"},{"teacherId":10213828,"projectId":9638532,"letterContent":"There are no words to express how truly thankful we are for the items you purchased for us. In my classroom I work with students with identifying the next step in their lives and planning. We do a lot of communication techniques and speaking in front of our peers. The podium that was part of the project has helped them to gain the confidence to present and talk in front of their peers when it comes to public speaking.\r\nAnother part of the project is wired headphones for students. This year with changes in the law students aren't allowed to wear headphones that are blue tooth, so we were looking for outside the box ideas in order for them to still have the opportunity to use music as a coping skill. Students \"check out\" headphones when they are completed with class work and are going make up work for other classes to utilize music. It has been a great way to continue to model healthy coping skills.\r\nAnyone that knows teenagers know how hungry they are all the time. With the snacks that were provided I was able to support students in times where they hadn't eaten breakfast or lunch and were struggling to focus in class. These snacks are crucial with my students as 99% of our population are on free or reduced lunches and struggle with obtaining food.","fullyFundedDate":1762437290563,"projectUrl":"project/overcoming-adveristy/9638532/","projectTitle":"Overcoming Adveristy","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Nolen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10213828"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_42686","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":100,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":42,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":9,"percentWhite":67,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":4,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":54.5,"schoolId":42686,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Alta Vista Alternative Education Center on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Alta Vista Alternative Education Center","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/iowa/dubuque-community-school-district/central-alternative-high-school/42686"}
