It has made a difference in the lives of my students. They had a safe place to ask for hygiene and feminine products and they were able to continue throughout the day without feeling hunger. Many of my students have never used deodorant and their refugee incomes cannot afford any extras, so these donations were able to help them assimilate with confidence into this new world of theirs. \r\n\r\nThe school supplies have been a huge help in supporting learning. They are able to continue learning with all the must have resources. Teaching in the inner city and in a public school setting, there is little money to provide teachers with supplies needed. Because of the donations, we are able to create a safe and inspiring environment for the students.","fullyFundedDate":1745109061564,"projectUrl":"project/help-refugees-find-success-at-school/9066915/","projectTitle":"Help Refugees Find Success at School!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Westcott","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9872285_orig.jpg?crop=827,827,x0,y88&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1737057454765","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9872285"},{"teacherId":9799018,"projectId":8868203,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our classroom project to bring individual copies of Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann to my AP students. Your kindness has done more than just put books in students' hands—it has helped create access, equity, and engagement for learners who deserve it most.\r\n\r\nI teach at a Title I school where many students face barriers outside the classroom—economic hardship, limited access to books at home, and fewer advanced academic opportunities. Our AP program has historically seen lower enrollment, especially among students from marginalized racial, linguistic, and economic backgrounds. We have also had very limited access to texts to meet the rigor of a college level course. But projects like this one are helping to change that and helping to better prepare students for success in their future. \r\n\r\nHaving a personal copy of Killers of the Flower Moon has empowered my students—many of whom are reading a full nonfiction book for the first time. The gripping true-crime narrative and historical depth have sparked their curiosity and critical thinking in powerful ways. We've had rich conversations about systemic injustice, Indigenous history, and the overlooked stories that shape our country. These students are deeply engaged, asking questions, challenging perspectives, and connecting the book to current social issues.\r\n\r\nFor students who often don't see themselves reflected in academic spaces this has been transformative. \r\n\r\nThank you for believing in our classroom, our students, and their potential.
