The physical demands of proper embouchure, breath support, and finger coordination ask a lot of a middle schooler. When the equipment itself is fighting you on top of all that, it stops feeling like a challenge and starts feeling like failure.\r\n\r\nThat's what was happening for some of our students. Worn-out mouthpieces from rental stock were making sound production harder than it needed to be, and students had no way of knowing the equipment was part of the problem. One student in particular kept struggling, convinced that playing was just too difficult. When we replaced their overdue mouthpiece with a quality one, something shifted immediately. \r\n\r\nTheir eyes lit up. The barrier they thought was their own limitation turned out to be a piece of equipment that should have been replaced long ago.\r\n\r\nThat moment is exactly what this project made possible. Students are now actively using these reeds and mouthpieces every day, and the difference shows in their sound production, their articulation, and their confidence. They're improving faster because the tools are no longer working against them.\r\n\r\nFor families already stretching their budgets, replacing reeds and mouthpieces regularly is simply not a priority. Your donation made sure that gap didn't quietly hold our students back. It gave them a fair starting point, which is all they ever needed.","fullyFundedDate":1755282445245,"projectUrl":"project/clear-sound-confident-playersone-reed/9580738/","projectTitle":"Clear Sound, Confident Players—One Reed at a Time","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Calderon","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8834252_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753161787998","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/rccbaband"},{"teacherId":8834252,"projectId":10176999,"letterContent":"Before this project, our auditorium's age and limited district funding left the back of our stage almost entirely in the dark, literally. For a school musical, that means students rehearse for months and then perform in conditions that undercut everything they worked toward.\r\n\r\nWith the new lights, that changed. For the first time, we could wash the entire stage in color and control the mood of each scene. Our 40 students in Seussical Jr. felt it immediately, and so did the audience. What had been flat and dim became dynamic. Scenes escalated the way they were meant to. The lights did what lights in a musical are supposed to do: they told part of the story.\r\n\r\nBut this is not a one-show investment. These lights will serve every future musical, every concert, every performance in this building. For a school that cannot rely on district support to fill these gaps, your contribution did not just light up one show. It changed what this stage can do, permanently.\r\n\r\nOur students deserved to perform in conditions that matched their effort. Because of you, they did.","fullyFundedDate":1775737690880,"projectUrl":"project/from-dark-to-spotlight-stage-lighting-f/10176999/","projectTitle":"From Dark to Spotlight: Stage Lighting for Seussical Jr.","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Calderon","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8834252_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753161787998","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/rccbaband"},{"teacherId":10089346,"projectId":9509256,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, our classroom has been transformed into a more engaging, supportive, and student-centered learning environment. We are using the math manipulatives daily during small-group instruction and math centers, where students can physically model problems, build number sense, and explain their thinking with confidence. Sentence strips have become a key tool for helping students organize their work and communicate their reasoning, while timers support focus and smooth transitions. The prize wheel has added excitement and positive motivation, and the calming koala has quickly become a trusted support for students who need help regulating emotions and returning to learning.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, they were eager to explore the manipulatives and couldn't wait to spin the prize wheel. Several students asked if they could use the sentence strips \"every day,\" and many immediately gravitated toward the calming koala, recognizing it as a safe and comforting tool. It was powerful to see students feel seen, supported, and excited about learning all at once.\r\n\r\nStudents are applying these resources to deepen their understanding of current math concepts through hands-on problem solving and collaborative discussions. They are learning to manage their time more independently, explain their thinking clearly, and use calming strategies to stay engaged during challenging tasks. Because of your support, students are building not only academic skills but also confidence, self-regulation, and a positive mindset toward learning. They walked into the room and immediately began trying out the different options, from wobble stools to cushions and cozy chairs. One student said, \"This is so cozy!\" That moment really showed me how much environment matters in learning. The seating gave them a sense of ownership over their space, and it instantly changed the energy in the classroom.\r\n\r\nWe've been using the flexible seating during small-group discussions. Students are more focused and engaged because they get to choose what works best for them, whether that's a quiet corner with a cushion or a stool at a collaborative table. For example, during our last group project, I noticed students naturally moved to seats that fit their learning styles, some stood at higher tables to brainstorm while others curled up with clipboards to sketch out ideas. The choice helped everyone contribute in ways that felt natural to them.\r\n\r\nWe will continue building a classroom community where students take responsibility for their learning and their environment. The seating is more than just furniture, it's a tool that supports collaboration, independence, and focus. I'm excited to see how this resource will keep empowering students throughout the year, especially as we dive into more hands-on projects that ask them to think creatively and work together.","fullyFundedDate":1754061887182,"projectUrl":"project/flexible-seating-for-flexible-minds/9491681/","projectTitle":"Flexible seating for flexible minds!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Frangul","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10089346_orig.jpg?crop=480,480,x0,y68&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1754779070422","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10089346"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_51653","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":484,"numTeachers":40,"percentFrplEligible":91,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":35,"percentWhite":39,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":8,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":0,"gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"12.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":71.8,"schoolId":51653,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Roosevelt Creative Corridor Business Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Roosevelt Creative Corridor Business Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/iowa/cedar-rapids-community-school-district/roosevelt-middle-school/51653"}
