Tools such as fidgets, flexible seating, noise-canceling headphones, or textured objects give students appropriate ways to manage excess energy, anxiety, or sensory overload. When students can meet their sensory needs, they are better able to stay calm and focused rather than becoming distracted or disruptive.\r\n\r\nSecond, they improve attention and learning. Many students—especially those with ADHD, autism, or sensory processing differences—concentrate better when they can move, touch, or apply gentle sensory input. Sensory items allow these students to stay engaged in lessons for longer periods, which can lead to improved academic performance and task completion.\r\n\r\n\r\nFinally, sensory items often lead to fewer behavioral challenges. When students have proactive tools to manage their emotions and bodies, they are less likely to experience meltdowns, frustration, or off-task behavior. This creates a calmer classroom environment that benefits both students and you as the teacher.\r\n\r\nOverall, sensory items help create a classroom that is more responsive, inclusive, and conducive to learning by meeting students' diverse sensory and emotional needs.","fullyFundedDate":1765405847334,"projectUrl":"project/the-quiet-quarters/9725257/","projectTitle":"The Quiet Quarters","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bella","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6747947_orig.jpg?crop=3072,3072,x0,y512&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1684332697874","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6747947"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_19702","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":380,"numTeachers":27,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":38,"percentWhite":38,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":11,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":11,"gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"14.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":70.5,"schoolId":19702,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Pine Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Pine Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/indiana/michigan-city-area-schools/pine-elementary-school/19702"}
