The real-time Q&A we had with Sister Helen Prejean on was an event my students genuinely enjoyed. Each student was able to speak directly with Sister Helen and ask her a question on various topics related to her work, life, and capital punishment. How cool is that?! \r\n\r\nAcademically, we got to explore the ambivalence that the topic of the death penalty continues to present and how its application in this country has further marginalized people of color and the poor.\r\n\r\nPlease note that I'm sorry I can't provide photos of my students enjoying the book you purchased for them. I teach in a correctional facility, and as much is not permitted.\r\n\r\nI sincerely thank you for you kindness and thoughtfulness.","fullyFundedDate":1735714589932,"projectUrl":"project/instilling-hope-and-love-with-sister-hel/9001855/","projectTitle":"Instilling Hope and Love with Sister Helen Prejean","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Powroznik","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9871466_orig.jpg?crop=1499,1499,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1733946001763","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9871466"},{"teacherId":7379963,"projectId":8522476,"letterContent":"Many of my scholars look for books that they consider \"hood books\" because they see themselves in them. But, when we started reading books or when I recommended these to scholars, many came back and asked me for more or came back with questions about history. Many scholars didn't realize that they could relate to people around the world and learn from people beyond the city limits. These books have opened the eyes of my scholars. The discussions and reflections have been inspiring. Your donations have opened the doors for scholars who didn't realize how large the world truly is. \r\nMy scholars have been begging me to show them different elements of history and we are now connecting our books to different topics in other classes!
