We have instituted a new \"game day\" that occurs 2-3 times per month in my Spanish II, III, and IV classes. On a game day, students rotate through various game stations, including: Guess Who? (Adivina QuiƩn), Heads Up! (Cabezas Arriba), Bananagrams, Scrabble, and Go Fish (A Pescar). They play the game for approximately 30 minutes at each station and speak in Spanish throughout the game day. They are either asking questions in Spanish, making words with letter tiles in Spanish, asking for number or suit cards in Spanish, or trying to give clues in Spanish to help their partner arrive at a correct answer.\r\n My students were so excited when they first saw the materials because the board games that we had were so old that they were missing pieces and, in some cases, were unusable due to the condition of the boards. We also did not have enough games for 25-30 students to play in pairs or even in small groups of 3. But once we got the donation box from Donors Choose, we were able to get rid of some of the older games and now have game days where everyone can participate at stations, thanks to the number and variety of board games we have.\r\n Some games, like chess, Clue, and Life, are better suited for use during Homeroom. I have 17 students in my Homeroom class, and they love having newer games to play on Wednesdays, since that is our designated game day each week. I will increase the game-day frequency in my Spanish IV class next year to promote even greater Spanish language fluency, since it is a much smaller class. I am creating Spanish-language index cards to help them learn vocabulary that will make it easier to stay focused on Spanish while playing Clue and Life. They will hopefully be able to play an entire game within a class period and use Spanish throughout the 48-minute class period.","fullyFundedDate":1762362050254,"projectUrl":"project/vamos-a-jugar/9634328/","projectTitle":"Vamos a Jugar","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Moore","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6966044_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755186134623","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6966044"},{"teacherId":6123271,"projectId":9578477,"letterContent":"Words cannot express our gratitude for your donations to our air quality research project. When I told my students that our project got fully funded, they all cheered loudly. The day that our air quality sensors arrived, they couldn't wait to open the package and get to work using them!\r\n\r\nThe students began the project by posing a question they thought they could answer through research using the PocketLab Air Quality Sensors. Some of the questions included whether hairspray or disinfectant spray had a greater effect on the air quality in our homes, if the air quality was worse in the classroom or the hallways of our school, how effective an air purifier is in the chemistry lab, and whether the air quality is better in the woods behind our school or in the parking lot where there are no trees. When the students analyzed their data, and it did not provide the answers they were expecting, it sparked some incredible discussions about why that might be the case. It led to discussions on the size and density of particulate matter and the impact of wind on air quality. The students concluded the project with a poster walk. They presented their findings to their peers and me. Their presentations were so good that I considered extending them into a second day to accommodate the wonderful discussions that were taking place!\r\n\r\nThis project is just the beginning! Throughout the school year, students will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge and propose solutions to address air quality issues they face in their daily lives.\r\n\r\nAgain, we are extremely grateful for your donation! We could not do this without wonderful donors like yourself!","fullyFundedDate":1755659280576,"projectUrl":"project/air-quality-alert-is-it-really-that-bi/9578477/","projectTitle":"Air Quality Alert!
