We have only had the printer for about a month, since school just started so my students have not had the opportunity to use it yet. However, we are very excited about the projects we have planned and the learning opportunities this technology will provide.\r\n\r\nThe 3D printer will help my students take what they are learning in Fusion and the engineering design process and turn their digital ideas into actual, physical objects. Rather than designing something on a computer and simply looking at it on a screen, students will be able to create a design, print it, evaluate it, identify what could be improved, and redesign it. This gives them an authentic opportunity to practice the engineering process of designing, testing, and improving a product.\r\n\r\nIn the coming weeks, students will begin learning Fusion and creating their initials as 3D objects. They will then use Fusion to design a toy that can be printed and tested. We will also be designing and printing cams for an automata project, allowing students to see how a digital design can become a working mechanical component. One of our larger upcoming projects will challenge students to identify a problem or need around our school and design and 3D print a solution. I am especially excited about this project because students will not simply be following directions—they will be using engineering to solve a real-world problem.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for my students is the opportunity to see something they created on a computer become something they can actually hold in their hands. The Bambu Lab printer also gives us the ability to work with multiple colors through the AMS system, which adds another level of creativity and personalization to their designs.\r\n\r\nBecause we are just beginning to introduce 3D printing into our classroom, I cannot yet say that particular students have especially warmed to the technology through hands-on use. What I have already noticed, however, is a great deal of curiosity and excitement when students see the printer and learn about what they will eventually be able to create with it. I am looking forward to seeing which students discover a passion for CAD, 3D printing, mechanical design, or problem-solving as we begin these projects.\r\n\r\nThis technology will give my students an opportunity to move from simply learning about engineering to actually practicing it. I am incredibly thankful for the support that made this possible and excited to see the ideas my students turn into reality.","fullyFundedDate":1778558081162,"projectUrl":"project/the-future-is-being-printed-here/10201754/","projectTitle":"The Future is Being Printed Here... with Bambu 3D Printer","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Crozier","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp253625_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1482091115123","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/253625"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_19130","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1318,"numTeachers":64,"percentFrplEligible":58,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":85,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":4,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":6,"gradesServed":"7 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"20.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":100.0,"schoolId":19130,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Leo Junior Senior High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Leo Junior Senior High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/indiana/east-allen-county-school-district/leo-junior-senior-high-school/19130"}
