Our kids enjoyed adding to the donations and meeting a shelter dog. This dog has since been adopted! \r\n\r\nOur kids collected donations before school and during lunch. We even had a contest. The administrator with the most donations in their bucket had to kiss a pig! The kids loved the daily buildup. The admin, not so much! In the end, our assistant principal kissed Wilbur!\r\n\r\nWe were so excited to be able to give back to our local shelter. They are an essential part of our community. Those animals deserve all the love and need to find families to love them. Until then, the shelter is doing an amazing job stepping in. Because we are in an economically deprived area, most of my students do not have access to reading material such as books, magazines, or newspapers. Also, we are in a school system that has an extremely large Hispanic population. That means that many of my students are speaking English as a second language.\r\nBy using the magazines that you provided, I am not only teaching my students about stem, current events, but I am also enriching their literacy skills. This is developing reading skills, reading comprehension, and developing a current events awareness of what is going on in the scientific community.
