They are already enjoying the novel, Damselfly, which I selected as an alternative to the 1950's novel Lord of the Flies. This novel is very dense and quite difficult for my students to understand. They have not engaged in the novel over the years. However, with the addition of Damselfly, with similar topics, my students are engaged.\r\n\r\nReading is such a lost art in life, and it is often a difficult task for my language learners. It is so important for any reader to read for pleasure. I know that my students will enjoy Damselfly and its themes and topics. I will be creating activities for the students to complete as we work with the novel over the next few weeks, which will demonstrate their comprehension.\r\n\r\nAgain, I so appreciate your investment in my students and my classroom. I know they will never forget the kindness that strangers have shown my students. The book, Solito, is about a young boy who travels to the United States by himself to become reunited with his family. I have students in my classroom who also have traveled alone to make it to safety in the US.\r\n\r\nBooks are a window to the soul. My students are much more invested in reading when they can see themselves in the pages they read. I take great pride in researching books which I think will be a \"best fit\" for my classroom. When they are engaged in reading, they learn that reading for pleasure is indeed an enjoyable activity.\r\n\r\nIt takes a village to educate students today, especially those I have in my classes. We will never know some of the pain, heartache, and fears my students have already faced in their young lives. By your donation you show them people care and want the best for all students.
