Everyday in the cold months students are searching for gloves, hats, and scarves to wear out to recess. We live in a low income area and it is hard to help provide for each student. But, this was such an amazing thing to receive. Now, we have a closet for students go into whenever they need to grab a pair of gloves or a hat. The best part about the gloves is they are all black so we don't have to worry about matching them. If the garments get soiled we just need to wash and reuse. The students love that they do not have to search for the correct sizes or pairs for their hands. There is something for everyone. One group is reading The Giver, and learning a lot about foreshadowing. They are also doing a good job analyzing why characters are given certain abilities, and why others are not. \r\n\r\nAnother group read The Call of the Wild and enjoyed thinking about how the dog wanted to live a life out in the wild. This was a very engaging literacy resource for these hands-on learners! I could go on and on about the impact these resources have made and will continue to make. \r\n\r\nMy hope is that these materials can be continuously used for years to come. My goal is to continue to use these resources, and be able to provide even more resources that our students need in order to become successful readers and writers in and out of the classroom. The classes have enjoyed The Magical yet and relating it back to things they are using growth mindset for. Therapy games and SEL books are helping students name emotions, practice problem-solving, and build empathy in a way that feels engaging and safe. The hands-on nature of the resources has made lessons more engaging and has helped my students build confidence while practicing important skills.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the materials, their reaction was pure excitement. They were eager to explore everything and immediately asked when they would get to use them. Many of them commented on how fun and \"special\" the new tools felt, and they were much more motivated to stay focused and try their best.
