We are currently using these materials to create an inclusive environment for our special needs students. They have goals to participate with the classroom during carpet time and the bench allows them to join us while having their own space if needed. This has also helped bridge the gap between sitting at their table and the carpet, as this has encouraged them to sit on the carpet more since they are in closer proximity. We also get to build our classroom community by having all students sit on the bench at different times to get a different view and space while also encouraging positive interactions with our special needs students. \r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials they were ecstatic! As a relatively new teacher, I have been slowly building my classroom and they said the addition of flexible seating made it feel like their old classrooms. It is nice to know that these resources can make the transition from kindergarten to 1st grade even smoother! Students feel more comfortable with different seating, especially since it is open for everyone to use rather than something to earn. When they are feeling sick they may use the floor seats to rest while still participating, some use the wobble stools at their table to have movement while working, or using the bench to see the board from a higher perspective. \r\n\r\nI cannot express how grateful I am for you generous donation. So far, most of the snacks have been eaten up, toys have been played with, board has been used, and there is still so much we have left for the students to experience. When we get back from winter break, we will start our life cycle unit, in which I am so excited to share all the amazing stem items we have now that perfectly tie into it. The students will be able to be fully immersed with hands on learning, even for subjects like reading. Students have also been using all the arts supplies for their free time, as as some of my students prefer crafts over games. I love being a versatile classroom for all of my students.
