The students were so excited when they first saw the rug and immediately wanted to sit on it!\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments has been watching my students gather on the rug during read-alouds. I decided that this class needs to have experiences. My class is 90% English learners. They come from 10 different countries and have experienced things that people who live in America only see on the news. So with the need to find replacements I choose to get craft materials to celebrate the American holidays. Many students have never experiencesd Halloween, Thanksgiving and Valentine's day. We are going to do it up big this year!\r\n\r\n I also choose to get some things for our math lessons! Coffee straws may seem strange to outsiders but to me they are going to become ones, tens and hundreds! When the grow lights and science books arrived, my students were absolutely amazed. Their eyes lit up with excitement as we unpacked everything together, and they were especially curious about how the grow lights work. It quickly turned into a hands on learning moment, with students eagerly sharing predictions about how plants grow and what they might observe.\r\n\r\nI was excited to get them before last school year ended and already put these resources to great use in our classroom. The grow lights have allowed us to begin a plant growing project where students are planting seeds, observing daily changes, and documenting their findings. The science books became a favorite during both group read-aloud time and independent exploration, helping us build vocabulary and deepen our understanding of plants, nature, and life cycles. One of the most special moments was hearing students make connections between the books and what they were seeing happen right in front of them with their own plants.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we are excited to begin another plant study during the next school year by tracking growth over time, comparing different conditions, and even tying in art and other activities based on our observations. These materials have sparked curiosity, encouraged hands on learning, and made science come alive for my students.
