As students follow Liesel's story, they will learn how to analyze how characters change in response to difficult circumstances, examine how an author's choices shape a story, and support their thinking with meaningful evidence from the text. They are also challenged to consider how words can be used to influence, inspire, manipulate, and connect people. These are skills that extend far beyond one novel and into every area of their academic and personal lives.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading is an active experience. Students don't simply read pages and answer questions. They stop to wonder, make predictions, discuss character choices, notice patterns, annotate important passages, and talk with one another about what they are discovering. Sometimes our classroom is filled with lively conversation; other times it is simply quiet as students become completely absorbed in the story. We write about what we read, question the author's choices, and use evidence to develop our own interpretations. The best moments are when students begin having conversations about the book without waiting for me to lead them.\r\n\r\nOne of the most rewarding parts of this experience will be seeing students who don't always consider themselves \"readers\" become invested in Liesel's story. Some students are drawn to the historical setting, while others connect deeply with the characters and their relationships. This book will create opportunities for students with different interests, reading strengths, and backgrounds to find something meaningful in the story.\r\n\r\nYour donation will make these moments, and future moments, possible.
