These materials have already made a meaningful difference in my ability to care for students in the school nurse's office while helping them feel comfortable, confident, and ready to return to the classroom.\r\n\r\nThe supplies have allowed me to create a space where students can discreetly access items they may need, including deodorant, body wipes, clean underwear, hair care supplies, dental hygiene products, lip balm, and other basic health and hygiene necessities. Having these items readily available is especially important because children do not always have control over whether these necessities are available to them at home. At school, we can meet that need without embarrassment or judgment.\r\n\r\nThe hygiene materials have also created opportunities for education. The books and supplies help reinforce age-appropriate conversations about handwashing, body care, dental hygiene, and the changes that come with growing up. Instead of hygiene being something that makes a student feel singled out, we can approach it as a normal part of taking care of our bodies.\r\n\r\nOne of the greatest benefits of this project has been the ability to handle sensitive situations privately and immediately. A student who has an accident can receive clean underwear. A student concerned about body odor can be offered deodorant or a body wipe. A student who needs help with their hair or another personal-care need can take care of it and return to class with dignity. These may seem like small things, but for a child, they can have a tremendous impact on confidence and their ability to focus on learning.\r\n\r\nAs a school nurse, my goal is not only to care for students when they are sick or injured, but also to remove health-related barriers that interfere with their school day. Your generosity has given me additional tools to do exactly that.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping us care for the whole child and for giving our students access to basic necessities in a safe, supportive, and respectful environment. Your donation is being put to use every day, and we are incredibly grateful for your support.","fullyFundedDate":1782517850773,"projectUrl":"project/help-the-nurses-office/10336823/","projectTitle":"Help the Nurse's Office","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Heath","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10531050"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_25730","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":673,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":6,"percentBlack":18,"percentWhite":39,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":27,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":7,"gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":95.2,"schoolId":25730,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Cherry Valley Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Cherry Valley Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/illinois/rockford-public-schools-district-205/cherry-valley-elementary-school/25730"}
