Because of your kindness, my 6th and 7th grade students now have access to a variety of high-interest, grade-level-appropriate novels that will allow us to create literature circles. One of my biggest goals as a language arts teacher is to help students discover that reading can be something they genuinely enjoy, rather than something they simply have to do for school. In a world where technology and so many other forms of entertainment compete for their attention, encouraging students to develop a love of reading is more important than ever. Your donations are helping me provide students with something incredibly valuable: the opportunity to choose books that interest them and discover the joy of reading for themselves.\r\n\r\nThrough literature circles, students will have the opportunity to read alongside their peers, engage in meaningful discussions, explore different perspectives, and develop important skills such as making inferences, analyzing characters, identifying themes, and supporting their thinking with evidence from the text. Rather than having every student read the same novel, students will be able to select books that connect with their interests and reading abilities. This choice gives students a sense of ownership over their learning and helps create a classroom community where reading becomes a shared experience. I especially hope to reach those students who may not yet consider themselves readers. Sometimes, all it takes is finding that one book that captures their attention to change the way they feel about reading.\r\n\r\nAfter more than 20 years in education, I still believe that one of the greatest gifts we can give children is a love of learning. My hope is that these books will do more than strengthen reading comprehension and critical thinking skills. I want them to spark curiosity, encourage conversations, build confidence, and remind students that books can take them places they never imagined. Your generosity has made it possible for me to create these opportunities for my students, and I am truly grateful. Thank you for investing in my classroom, believing in the importance of literacy, and helping me work toward inspiring the next generation of lifelong readers and learners!","fullyFundedDate":1778109146077,"projectUrl":"project/creating-lifelong-readers-one-book-at-a/10248021/","projectTitle":"Creating Lifelong Readers, One Book at a Time","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Kuykendall","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10489839"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_27091","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":852,"numTeachers":55,"percentFrplEligible":23,"percentAsian":20,"percentBlack":6,"percentWhite":54,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":13,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":4,"gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"15.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":72.7,"schoolId":27091,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Heritage Grove Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Heritage Grove Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/illinois/plainfield-consolidated-school-district-202/heritage-grove-middle-school/27091"}
