We began the school year by teaching fractions with the goal of building a deep understanding of the concept, rather than rushing through the material solely for testing purposes.\r\n\r\nI researched engaging and meaningful ways to introduce fractions, focusing on hands-on, real-world learning experiences. When the Play-Doh arrived, students were immediately excited and eager to create. Their excitement grew even more when they learned we would be using it to explore fractions. Students divided the Play-Doh into pieces and compared parts to wholes, which helped make the concept more concrete and meaningful.\r\n\r\nThe fraction games were a wonderful addition to our learning centers and provided an enjoyable way for students to practice and reinforce what was taught in class. Our next project will involve creating our own fraction pieces using the boxes we received. We plan to transform the classroom into a pizza parlor to further enhance engagement and real-world application.\r\n\r\nWe are looking forward to the next steps and truly appreciate your support in making learning both fun and impactful for our students.","fullyFundedDate":1758202722182,"projectUrl":"project/fractions-gone-wild/9505287/","projectTitle":"Fractions Gone Wild!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Clayton","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3174438_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753842887928","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3174438"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_110095","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":289,"numTeachers":31,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":81,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":11,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"4 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"9.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":0.0,"schoolId":110095,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Barack Obama Leadership & STEM on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Barack Obama Leadership & STEM","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/illinois/park-forest-chicago-hgt-school-district-163/barack-obama-leadership-stem/110095"}
