Our Advocate Club continues to grow, and your support has played a meaningful role in that success.\r\n\r\nWe began with about 10 students who wanted to build connections with peers who have disabilities, including Autism, Down Syndrome, and Intellectual Disabilities. Today, we are proud to have more than 30 students who are making a positive impact on our school by fostering meaningful connections while demonstrating empathy, encouragement, and acceptance toward students with significant challenges.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue growing. Our hope is to turn our club—and all that it stands for—into the norm at Parkside Junior High. We also plan to expand our outreach by incorporating service-learning projects that will help improve our school grounds and strengthen our sense of community.\r\n\r\nWe truly could not have done this without your support. First, the supplies that went to our/my new organization systems are awesome! I learned in a continuing education class that I took that students actually use up working memory when they have to think about where to turn things in, etc. Having a standardized system for that (with amazing organizers!) frees up that working memory to actually LEARN! This has helped us keep things so much more organized and efficient. We also need an easy way to pass out essential classroom materials for everyone to use (and to supplement the supplies I had left over from years past). These bags are perfect!\r\n\r\nThe content material provided has been so useful. We are using our task cards every day as bell work to practice our non-fiction reading skills! It is so helpful to have prompts and writing passages already at hand instead of having to search for them. It allows me to focus more on what I want students to learn instead of focusing so much on searching out materials. We will continue to incorporate the language skills we are learning in our writing in Social Studies and Language Arts.","fullyFundedDate":1757683056408,"projectUrl":"project/curriculum-and-classroom-refresh/9377032/","projectTitle":"Curriculum and Classroom Refresh!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Kintner","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7779665_orig.jpg?crop=375,375,x258,y137&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1748034795001","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7779665"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_28949","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":587,"numTeachers":45,"percentFrplEligible":46,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":18,"percentWhite":57,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":13,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":8,"gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"13.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":91.8,"schoolId":28949,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Parkside Junior High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Parkside Junior High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/illinois/mclean-co-unit-district-5/parkside-junior-high-school/28949"}
