The decodable books give students an opportunity to apply the phonics skills they have learned while building confidence as independent readers. We are also using the spelling and math games to practice important skills through engaging, multisensory activities. One of my favorite moments has been watching students work together during centers, excited to use the new materials while practicing skills they may have found challenging during whole-group instruction.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw all of the new materials, they were immediately excited and wanted to explore everything! They were especially eager to look through the books and choose which ones they wanted to read. It has been so rewarding to see their excitement turn into meaningful learning as they realize that they can actually read the books themselves using the phonics skills they have been practicing.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue building our phonics skills and using them to become stronger, more confident readers. As we introduce new sounds and spelling patterns, students will use the decodable books to find and practice those patterns in real words and sentences. We will also continue using the math and spelling games throughout the year to reinforce new concepts. These resources will be used again and again, helping make learning more engaging while giving my students the extra practice they need to grow!","fullyFundedDate":1781635453510,"projectUrl":"project/engaging-centers-for-first-grade-learner/10293699/","projectTitle":"Engaging Centers for First Grade Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Page","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10039794"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_28799","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":582,"numTeachers":36,"percentFrplEligible":14,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":82,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":10,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":1,"gradesServed":"Pre-K - 1","studentTeacherRatio":"16.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":72.7,"schoolId":28799,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Oakwood Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Oakwood Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/illinois/lemont-bromberek-sch-dist-113a/oakwood-elementary-school/28799"}
