The funding of our necessity nook came at such a needed time. Winters are long and cold here and MANY kids benefited from the supply of lip balm, gloves and socks (for when recess resulted in cold wet socks). The lotion was also appreciated during the dry cold weather. These were things that the general population of our school accessed a lot of. \r\n\r\nEven more important were the basic hygiene items that my more in need students have accessed to take home. Bar soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste have been something students have been very greatful for. One student even letting me know they had none at home. For those kids, this necessity nook brought comfort and knowledge that they are so cared for here. That beyond academics, school is a nuturing space and their teachers and community are there to support them. \r\n\r\nCommunity being so important of a concept. My 5th graders could not believe that so much generousity had been given to them through this gift. They were incredibly grateful and that made it easier for kids to openly say they needed something. Thank you for providing that to my students and my future students (we are still so well stocked!) It means more than I can put into words.","fullyFundedDate":1766584419144,"projectUrl":"project/the-necessity-nook-little-things-that-m/9832183/","projectTitle":"The Necessity Nook: Little Things That Make a Big Difference","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Miller","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9084266_orig.jpg?crop=1006,1006,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723216363211","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrsjuliemiller"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_28838","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":356,"numTeachers":21,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":5,"percentWhite":68,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":12,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"1 - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"17.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":75.8,"schoolId":28838,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Olson Park Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Olson Park Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/illinois/harlem-unit-school-district-122/olson-park-elementary-school/28838"}
