The resources are available to students when they need help managing stress, staying focused, or regulating their emotions. Students use them during independent work, challenging assignments, transitions, and short calming breaks. One memorable moment occurred when a student became frustrated during an assignment. The student selected a fidget, took a brief break, and then returned to the activity feeling calmer and ready to keep trying. It was wonderful to see the materials provide meaningful support right when it was needed.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the new materials, they were incredibly excited! They enjoyed exploring the different options and learning how each resource could help them. Many students immediately began sharing which items helped them feel calmer or concentrate better. They were also proud to know that generous donors cared about their well-being and wanted them to be successful.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue practicing how to recognize feelings of stress, frustration, or distraction and independently choose an appropriate calming strategy. Students will learn how to use the resources responsibly and reflect on which tools work best for them. As we continue our classroom lessons and projects, these materials will help students build self-regulation skills, remain engaged, and return to learning with greater confidence. Students practice sequential thinking, problem-solving, debugging, and perseverance while learning new vocabulary like \"algorithm,\" \"loop,\" and \"conditional.\" They read step-by-step directions with purpose, knowing their understanding directly impacts whether their game or animation works. These books also nurture creativity as students design interactive stories, develop characters, and bring their ideas to life through code.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is active and hands-on. Students read directions aloud with partners, pause to reread tricky steps, compare their code to examples, and collaborate to solve problems. Reluctant readers, hands-on learners, and creative thinkers especially thrive because reading becomes meaningful and immediate and they see instant results from their effort. Instead of reading to answer questions, they're reading to build, create, and succeed, which boosts both engagement and confidence!\r\n\r\nThe students are so excited to have these coding books as resources as they begin preparing for and working on their final course projects.","fullyFundedDate":1772047079877,"projectUrl":"project/books-to-support-coding-in-scratch/10101079/","projectTitle":"Books to Support Coding in Scratch","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Reeser","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7155941_orig.jpg?crop=575,576,x0,y46&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1583361350483","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7155941"},{"teacherId":7155941,"projectId":9612051,"letterContent":"Since adding the sensory items and fidgets to the library, both students and staff have been using them intentionally to support focus, self-regulation, and comfort during learning time. Students often choose a fidget before read aloud or work time and we've noticed that having something to keep their hands busy helps them stay seated, calm, and engaged for longer periods. One memorable moment was during a digital citizenship lesson when a student who typically struggles to stay focused was able to complete an entire lesson while quietly using a sensory mat - something that had been a challenge before.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, their excitement was immediate. They were curious, eager to explore, and asked thoughtful questions about how and when to use them. After clear expectations were set, students quickly began using the items responsibly and respectfully. Many students expressed that the sensory tools helped them feel calmer, especially during longer library/digital literacy lessons or more demanding tasks.\r\n\r\nThese tools are not only supporting academic growth but also fostering a more inclusive, welcoming library environment where every student can learn in a way that works best for them.","fullyFundedDate":1764727836508,"projectUrl":"project/stress-relief-fidgets-calming-tools/9612051/","projectTitle":"Stress Relief Fidgets & Calming Tools","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Reeser","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7155941_orig.jpg?crop=575,576,x0,y46&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1583361350483","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7155941"},{"teacherId":10225535,"projectId":9653040,"letterContent":"My students have never been more excited to read!
