Having a snack available gives my students a chance to refuel and helps them stay focused and engaged during the long school day. For some of my students, this may be the only snack they have available during the school day, so having something to eat can make a meaningful difference.\r\n\r\nWhen the snacks first arrived, my students were so excited! They were eager to see what we had and enjoyed being able to choose their snack each day. I have noticed how much students appreciate this simple part of our routine. Snack time gives us an opportunity to pause, eat, talk with our friends, and get ready to learn again.\r\n\r\nOne moment that really stood out to me was seeing how much more ready my students were to participate after snack. Kindergarten is a long day, and by the afternoon, some students are tired or have difficulty staying focused. Having a snack helps them recharge so they can return to learning with more energy and enthusiasm.\r\n\r\nWe are continuing to work on building strong foundations in reading and math. Our next steps include practicing letter sounds, blending and segmenting sounds, learning sight words, and developing counting and number skills. My kindergarten students use them during our phonics and Orton-Gillingham-inspired lessons to practice writing letters, matching sounds to letters, spelling words, and encoding simple words. We use the routine of \"write, say, erase, repeat\" so students get multiple opportunities to practice each skill in a hands-on and multisensory way.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials arrived, my students were excited to see the new supplies and could not wait to use them. They especially loved having their own materials to write on and erase. What may seem like a simple whiteboard has made a big difference in keeping students engaged during phonics practice. Instead of worrying about running out of usable boards or struggling to erase their work, students can quickly erase and try again.\r\n\r\nOne moment that stood out to me was watching students practice sounds and words they had previously found challenging. They were able to write a letter, say its sound, erase it, and immediately try again. That repetition gives students the confidence to keep practicing instead of becoming frustrated when they make a mistake.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue building on these foundational skills as we work toward reading and spelling more complex words. We will use the new materials throughout our phonics lessons to practice letter-sound correspondences, blending, segmenting, and encoding CVC words. As the year progresses, these same whiteboards will allow students to apply what they have learned to increasingly challenging words and sentences.\r\n\r\nThank you to our donors for helping make this daily learning possible. Your generosity has made a meaningful difference in our classroom by providing resources that help us stay organized, maximize our instructional time, and give our students more opportunities to learn through hands-on activities.\r\n\r\nThe storage tubs have been especially helpful for organizing our recess activities. Each tub is used to keep different activities together, such as superhero toys, LEGOs, blocks, and other hands-on materials. Having the activities organized and easily accessible makes it easier for students to choose an activity and begin playing with their classmates. It also helps teach our kindergarten students important skills such as\r\nresponsibility, organization, sharing, and cleaning up after themselves.\r\n\r\nThe three-tier rolling cart has been a huge help during our small-group instruction. I use each level of the cart to organize materials and activities for our small groups. Instead of having to gather materials from different areas of the classroom, I can quickly roll the cart to the table where I am working with students. This allows me to spend less time preparing and more time focusing on instruction and interacting with my students.\r\n\r\nThe storage bags have also made a noticeable difference in our daily routines. We use them to keep each student's whiteboard, eraser, and dry-erase marker together. Previously, students had to gather each item individually, which could take several minutes and often resulted in materials being misplaced. Now, students can quickly grab their bag and be ready to learn. This simple organizational system has helped\r\nmake transitions smoother and allowed us to spend more time practicing important kindergarten skills.\r\n\r\nThe students were so excited when they saw our new storage and organizational materials! They were eager to explore the different recess activities and were especially excited to see that the LEGO and building materials, they already enjoy now had a designated place to be stored and organized. They were also excited to have their own organized supplies for small-group activities. Seeing their excitement over\r\nmaterials being organized and easily accessible reminded me how valuable these resources are in creating a classroom where students feel prepared and excited to learn.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, these resources have helped create a classroom environment where students can become more independent. Kindergarten students are learning so much more than academics throughout the school day. They are learning how to take responsibility for their belongings, follow routines, work with others, make choices, and care for their classroom materials. These resources provide opportunities to\r\npractice those skills every day.\r\n\r\nOur Next Steps\r\n• Teach students to independently select, use, and return recess activities.\r\n• Continue to develop student responsibility for classroom materials.\r\n• Use the rolling cart to organize and rotate small-group activities based on student needs.\r\n• Create additional hands-on learning opportunities for reading, writing, and math.\r\n• Establish consistent routines so students can quickly gather the materials they need and transition into\r\nlearning.\r\n• Continue to find ways to make our classroom more organized, accessible, and student friendly.\r\n\r\nThank you again for investing in our classroom and our students.
