Each student has their own learning style and to provide equitable learning experiences to each student contributes to their confidence and success. The soft carpets are a new favorite spot for students to buddy read, gather for math and literacy lessons, as well as curl up and independently read. Every item has been used already and the clipboards are a staple when students choose to write in an area that normally couldn't provide a hard surface. The students have filled the book club bags with books and writing utensils while commenting on how easy it is to transition to small group reading. The students were excited to get the privacy shields for their desks and have already chose to use them several times. \r\nMy students and I both share an equal amount of gratitude to you and the support that you have provided for our classroom. I was able to purchase 2 area rugs and a small table for my classroom. These items were needed to make designated cozy work spaces for me and for my students. The kids were so excited when they walked in and saw the difference in the classroom. Even though it was a small change, it made an impact on the visual dynamics of the room. \r\n\r\nThe carpet spaces are such a wonderful addition because they keep the kids contained to one space during our read aloud times on one side of the room and our math introductions on the other side of the room. Kids who tend to be silly and hide under tables, play with chairs and other distractions, no know that while we have these designated times, they need to stay on the carpet and their focus is better. \r\n\r\nI absolutely LOVE my small round table. It is just enough space for me to spread things out and do work during my planning and lunch table. However, it is also small enough to have 1-2 kids to meet with. Sometimes I am working one to one with a student and this table makes it feel like a space where kids enjoy having that special attention. This is has a great impact because it gets them excited to read since their friends are endorsing the books.\r\n\r\nAnother way the kids are benefiting from these books is that I am able to provide several copies of the book to several kids at a time. This allows me to conduct book clubs and they absolutely love this. There are so many great things about book clubs that encourage kids to be stronger readers. The kids learn to work independently and get into amazing discussions with the other kids in the group about the book. It is so satisfying to see how excited the kids are when they finish a chapter book and are able to answer deep thinking questions. \r\n\r\nThe look on the kids faces when they saw the books all set out on my counter was priceless. They begged and begged to read them, but I wanted to label them and get them ready. It was very exciting for them when they were finally able to get their hands on the books. In a digital world there is still so many benefits to having a book in our hand and read without other electronic distractions.
