I started teaching in this library last year and since then we have undertaken many projects to try and get more books in kids' hands. When I first arrived the shelves were stuffed with books and the students really weren't finding anything because they weren't walking down the aisles pulling books out to see what was available. For many students it was a bit overwhelming to find anything in the space. \r\n\r\nWe have worked a lot on signage and labels as well as lessons on learning to navigate the library. Adding buckets into different sections has made a HUGE difference and we have seen so many things circulating that hadn't circulated in years. The biographies section was a huge section to tackle but we knew there were so many important and inspiring stories we wanted to give the chance to shine. We organized the biographies into categories and then put a majority of them in buckets so they were front facing and easy to file through. It has been a big hit, the circulation has gone up and students have been excited to find books about people they had heard about in class and at home. A majority of the buckets you donated went to this project. There were also a couple other miscellaneous sections that we were able to add buckets to that again made it easier for students to find what they were interested in.\r\n\r\nI know life can get busy, I appreciate you stopping and taking the time to find a project that would make an impact on so many students and their love of reading.","fullyFundedDate":1737035391929,"projectUrl":"project/browsing-bins-instead-of-scouring-spines/8890727/","projectTitle":"Browsing Bins Instead of Scouring Spines","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Krumme","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8524552_orig.jpg?crop=458,459,x0,y13&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1757021492539","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8524552"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_26431","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":258,"numTeachers":22,"percentFrplEligible":31,"percentAsian":12,"percentBlack":7,"percentWhite":61,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":11,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"11.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":73.3,"schoolId":26431,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Emerson Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Emerson Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/illinois/community-unit-school-district-200/emerson-elementary-school/26431"}
