When children walk in, they are greeted by art prints by Black artists, inclusive posters, and books that center their stories and experiences. Tools like Crayola's Colors of the World ensure every student can see themselves in what they create — because representation in our materials isn't an afterthought, it's the foundation.\r\nThe physical space has been transformed too. Floor cushions, a soft rug, and a cozy canopy give students the freedom to choose how and where they create, supporting sensory needs and emotional regulation. Calming lighting and mindful breathing boards help make the room feel safe and grounding — a place where students can exhale and make something beautiful.\r\nThis project has done more than update a classroom. It has built a space where black and brown children see themselves centered, celebrated, and affirmed every single day. Where art isn't just about technique — it's about identity, belonging, and joy.\r\nOur students came in full of culture and creativity. Now their classroom finally matches that.","fullyFundedDate":1756386018991,"projectUrl":"project/a-cozy-creative-and-culturally-proud-a/9395501/","projectTitle":"A Cozy, Creative, and Culturally Proud Art Room","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Zukosky","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9729719_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x0,y544&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1725479813311","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/c-zukosky"},{"teacherId":9729719,"projectId":9353427,"letterContent":"Thanks to the generosity of donors, my students now walk into an art room that invites them to touch, build, experiment, and create. The materials from this project are used during hands-on STEAM centers where Pre-K learners explore color mixing with watercolors and bleeding tissue paper, practice patterning and symmetry with beads and foam shapes, and build structures with magnetic tiles and pipe cleaners — all through the lens of art.\r\nFor our youngest learners, these open-ended materials do something powerful: they build confidence. When a child figures out how to balance a block tower, mix two colors into something unexpected, or decorate a creation with googly eyes and pom poms, they experience themselves as capable problem-solvers. That feeling sticks.\r\nTheir finished work is displayed proudly in our classroom — a visual reminder to every student that what they make matters. These experiences are laying the groundwork for creative and critical thinking skills that will follow them well beyond Pre-K.\r\nEvery child who walks through this door leaves knowing they are an artist, a builder, and a thinker — and that's because of you.","fullyFundedDate":1757540701330,"projectUrl":"project/integrating-stem-through-art-creative-l/9353427/","projectTitle":"Integrating Stem Through Art: Creative Learning for K–2 Students","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Zukosky","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9729719_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x0,y544&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1725479813311","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/c-zukosky"},{"teacherId":1495032,"projectId":9534101,"letterContent":"Because of your generosity, our classroom has been transformed into a more flexible, scholar-centered learning environment. The bean bag chairs have created a calm and inviting space where scholars feel relaxed yet focused. I've already noticed an increase in sustained attention. Scholars who previously struggled to remain engaged are now excited to select a learning space that works best for them.\r\n\r\nThe clipboards and storage stands have made it possible for scholars to work flexibly throughout the classroom. Whether collaborating with a peer, spreading out for quiet reflection, or working in a small group, they are no longer limited to their desks. This flexibility has strengthened their sense of ownership and responsibility. They are taking pride in caring for the materials and making thoughtful choices about where they learn best.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, this project has supported both academic growth and social-emotional development. Because of you, my scholars now have access to hands-on materials that have completely transformed our science classroom. We are actively using these resources during our weekly lab sessions, where scholars work collaboratively to investigate concepts like energy, motion, and cause-and-effect. One standout moment was during a recent experiment when scholars used the new materials to build and test models, excitedly revising their ideas based on what they observed. Seeing them apply scientific vocabulary and think like real scientists was incredibly rewarding.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials arrived, the excitement was immediate and genuine. Scholars were eager to explore, ask questions, and jump right into learning. Many of them expressed how \"real\" science finally felt—like what they see scientists doing in labs and experiments. The supplies gave them a sense of ownership and pride in their learning, and even students who are usually hesitant were fully engaged, confident, and curious.\r\n\r\nThanks to your support, our next steps include deeper investigations and long-term projects, such as our upcoming science fair and more advanced lab challenges that encourage problem-solving, teamwork, and critical thinking. Students now choose cozy reading nooks that help them stay focused and comfortable while diving into their books. The new seating and themed materials made my classroom come alive even more.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments happened during a small-group reading lesson. A student who normally struggles to stay engaged quietly grabbed a beanbag chair, sat beneath our new floating candles, and said, \"It feels like I'm really in the book now.\" For the rest of the lesson, he was focused, confident, and eager to share his thinking. That shift in attitude is the magic your donation created.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first walked in and saw the new materials, the room beamed with excitement. These cozy corners have quickly become one of the most popular areas in our classroom.\r\n\r\nThe impact has been remarkable. Scholars who were once reluctant to pick up a book now choose the bean bag area as their go-to reading spot, staying engaged for longer stretches of time.
