When we first received the notification that we were getting our supplies, we were so excited. DonorsChoose let us know that, unfortunately, some of the supplies were out of stock. However, this turned into a great opportunity. We were able to get both garbage pickers for outdoor use, as well as Amish brooms and long-handled dustpans. This made such a difference in our outdoor cleaning crew!\r\n\r\nFirst, students learned about different types of garbage pickers and practiced using them. They became part of our first internship SOP (standard operating procedures) for our outdoor cleaning crew. Each day, students go outside and take on roles such as trash picker, garbage support, or supervisor. While students were engaging in this job daily, we also learned about different types of brooms—Amish, lobby, push, and whisk—including how to use them, how to clean them, and important safety precautions. We then incorporated the brooms and long-handled dustpans you donated into our internship.\r\n\r\nThe students love working. I was nervous at first, since I have such a wide range of academic and behavioral skill levels, and I worried there might be pushback. Nope! We are halfway through the year, and all students are very engaged in the internship process. They put on their uniforms, wear their IDs, clock in digitally, get their job card so they know their position for the day, and then participate in the internship for 50 minutes. I also send home information for families to help extend what students are learning at school into their homes.\r\n\r\nThis program is truly teaching critical job and life skills, and for that, we are incredibly grateful. Thank you again for donating to our internship!","fullyFundedDate":1757941817862,"projectUrl":"project/help-us-build-job-skills-and-a-cleaner-e/9426462/","projectTitle":"Help Us Build Job Skills and a Cleaner Environment!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Manseau","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp107176_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1487730504390","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/saratyska"},{"teacherId":107176,"projectId":9182480,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your donation of the circle time calendars and stand for our childcare class! When the board came in along with the calendar, the students were so excited. I have students who are very into calendars, and they immediately wanted to work with it! Right now, students work with the calendar and stand for their class jobs. They practice changing the whole calendar at the beginning of the month, and each day they move the days of the week and weather—just like they would do if they worked with children ages toddler through 2nd grade.\r\n\r\nDuring our preschool unit, we will use it during instruction as well. Students are going to learn how to run circle time and will practice using the different calendars, including setting them up and asking others questions about them.\r\n\r\nThe stand has also really helped in our custodial class. I hadn't thought of it when I initially created the project, but we needed a way to show our students what shift they were on. With the other side of the calendar board, we are able to put student names and shifts so we can easily say, \"Shift 1, go get your materials,\" and students can look before getting their specific task cards.\r\n\r\nYour donation has benefitted students in both childcare and custodial now, and will continue to do so in years to come! The stand is extremely sturdy and will definitely last.","fullyFundedDate":1748542670216,"projectUrl":"project/support-our-future-goals-of-working-in-c/9182480/","projectTitle":"Support Our Future Goals of Working in Childcare","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Manseau","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp107176_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1487730504390","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/saratyska"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_5458","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":205,"numTeachers":24,"percentFrplEligible":75,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":34,"percentWhite":10,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":46,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":"8.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":69.3,"schoolId":5458,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Vaughn Occupational High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Vaughn Occupational High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/illinois/chicago-public-school-district-299/vaughn-occupational-high-school/5458"}
