These items may seem simple, but they play a huge role in helping my first-grade students fully participate in lessons. Having consistent access to these supplies has allowed me to plan more hands-on, creative activities where students can cut, build, organize, and express their understanding in meaningful ways.\r\n\r\nThe impact on my students has been immediate and noticeable. Students are more engaged, independent, and prepared because they each have the tools they need to be successful. Instead of worrying about sharing limited materials, they can focus on learning, collaborating, and completing their work with confidence. These supplies have also helped create a more organized and structured classroom environment, especially with folders that support student responsibility and routines.\r\n\r\nOverall, this project has strengthened both my instruction and my classroom community. I am able to maximize instructional time and provide richer learning experiences, while my students feel supported and excited to learn. These resources have made a significant difference in how my students engage with scientific content, allowing them to access grade-level material in a more structured and meaningful way. With these books, I am able to provide consistent, high-quality instruction that builds both content knowledge and academic language.\r\n\r\nThe impact has been especially important in my bilingual classroom, where students are developing skills in both English and Spanish. Having access to science books in English helps strengthen their vocabulary, comprehension, and confidence when discussing scientific ideas. Students are now more actively participating in lessons, asking questions, and making connections between concepts and their everyday experiences.\r\n\r\nOverall, these materials have enhanced student learning and supported a more engaging and inclusive classroom environment. Before, we were trying to make do with limited and worn-out gear, which made it difficult to practice skills safely and effectively. Now, with quality soccer balls, cones, pinnies, and other essentials, practices feel organized, energetic, and professional.\r\n\r\nWe are using the new resources to run structured training sessions twice a week. Students rotate through skill-building stations focused on dribbling, passing accuracy, footwork, and shooting drills. One special moment that stood out was during our first full scrimmage with the new equipment. The boys were able to divide into teams with pinnies, set up proper boundaries with cones, and play a full match. Their excitement was contagious — they cheered each other on, demonstrated teamwork, and truly felt like part of a real club.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new materials, their faces lit up. Many of them immediately started organizing the cones and inflating the balls, eager to get started. They kept saying, \"Now we can really practice!\" It was clear they felt proud and valued knowing that people cared enough to support their passion.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, our next steps include preparing for friendly matches with neighboring schools and focusing on sportsmanship, leadership, and fitness goals. We're also introducing small group leadership roles where older students help lead drills and mentor younger players. This project has not only strengthened their soccer skills but has also built confidence, responsibility, and a stronger sense of community.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving our students the tools they need to grow — on and off the field!","fullyFundedDate":1758222460632,"projectUrl":"project/goals-gloves-and-game-time/9610386/","projectTitle":"Goals, Gloves, and Game Time!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Chavarin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9547280_orig.png?crop=202,202,x0,y26&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1747446365631","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9547280"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_96693","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":534,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":83,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":96,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":70.6,"schoolId":96693,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Acero Charter School - Daniel Zizumbo Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Acero Charter School - Daniel Zizumbo Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/illinois/chicago-public-school-district-299/uno-daniel-zizumbo/96693"}
