More than that, materials, especially children's books, *invigorate* teaching and learning. New books keep things fresh, relevant, exciting, and fun, fun, fun for the children and for their teachers, too.\r\n\r\nThank you for the embarrassment of riches made possible through your generous and speedy donations. Inspiring picture book biographies, laugh-out-loud stories, empathetic social-emotional conversations, intriguing nonfiction that brings the world into our library space, and beauty, so much beauty through artful illustrations and clever writing. \r\n\r\nSome of the books will be wrapped up in pretty paper and distributed through the kindergarten as a weekly rotating \"gift\" from our library mascot, Grabby Bunny, to facilitate more read-aloud in the classrooms as well as in the library. I am personally chomping at the bit to read IT MIGHT BE AN APPLE in honor of Johnny \"Appleseed\" Chapman's birthday later this month. We revamped it as \"The Dancing Royals\" to be less gender-specific. It included the reader's theater script developed by 7th graders, an 8th grade acting coach and over twenty 5th and 6th grade players who were over the moon to have costumes in which to play their parts. They truly looked wonderful in their shiny crowns, gauzy robes and very authentic villager garb. \"You're giving Medieval,\" one student remarked, admiringly, to another. Two dance numbers, an audience of over 100 students and many smiling parents made for an extra exciting culmination of many weeks of hard work, camaraderie, and bringing a beloved classic story to life...new life. \r\n\r\nThis was a big endeavor, made possible with your support. The challenging part of these kind of big projects is wondering: can it be done? Yes, it can, with the help of generous hearts like yours. The kids asked to do it, and together, we made it happen.
