My students are so appreciative that they are able to use cookware and kitchen tools that are updated, safe, and the correct tools to use for different cooking exercises. I have gotten feedback from families that my students with special needs are going home with the recipes we are working on here in class and are cooking with siblings and adults, showing independence skills that even just a year ago were a pipe dream.\r\n\r\nOur new kitchen tools have allowed us to make more complex recipes than we have been able to make in the past, and it's enabled us to learn new skills in the classroom. Some highlights from last year: With our new mixing bowls we have developed and cooked a healthy breakfast recipe of chia seed blueberry muffins. We cook these every two weeks and keep them in the class for students to have as a healthy breakfast alternative in the morning. Some other rotating recipes that we have made with these new kitchen utensils are scrambled eggs with spinach, white bean and tomato pasta, healthy veggie pizza, chicken stir fry, fruit salad, french toast, veggie skewers and pasta salad.\r\n\r\nWithout your generous donations we would not have the kitchen tools and cookware necessary to cook these recipes. Your contribution has provided a critical space for students with significant special needs to build independence skills in a supported environment that otherwise would not have been possible. Thank you so much, we appreciate your donation beyond what words can describe.","fullyFundedDate":1694476352993,"projectUrl":"project/apartment-classroom-renovation/7825030/","projectTitle":"Apartment Classroom Renovation","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Daw","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8895897"},{"teacherId":6389094,"projectId":8946643,"letterContent":"My students routinely use the cleaning supplies at the Evanston Animal Shelter twice a week. Presently, students are learning what it is like to work in a greenhouse. We use sheet protectors to safeguard checklists and vocabulary definitions, along with other visual aids that will greatly enhance their learning experience. The new accordion file folders and brads are perfect for keeping our visual aids organized and easily accessible, which has already proven to be beneficial. \r\n\r\nAs we move forward with our future greenhouse projects, we are also incorporating clipboards to help students track materials effectively. We requested mini clipboards for task checklists and larger ones that can double as dry-erase boards for full-size materials. Additionally, a pencil holder and desk caddies for our classroom materials will help maintain organization and efficiency. The students really like the pencil dispenser that operates similar to a straw dispenser. We are excited about the next steps in this project and look forward to sharing our continued progress with our generous donors who have contributed to our learning journey.","fullyFundedDate":1730403472841,"projectUrl":"project/classroom-organization-learning-materi/8781648/","projectTitle":"Classroom Organization & Learning Materials","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Anderson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1862847_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1448828739768","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-anderson109"},{"teacherId":1862847,"projectId":8781360,"letterContent":"I want to take a moment to express my gratitude for your support and the resources made available through your generous contributions.\r\n\r\nWe utilized the funds to purchase shade umbrellas for our school greenhouse, which has greatly enhanced our students' comfort and productivity on warm sunny days. The students were excited when they first saw the new materials; the umbrellas not only provide relief from the heat but also create a more inviting environment for learning.\r\nOne specific project that we recently initiated is called \"Sprout Houses,\" which involves seed germination. The umbrellas have been instrumental in this project, as we hang the sprout houses underneath them, allowing our seedlings to thrive while protecting them from direct sunlight. The students have shown incredible enthusiasm, taking ownership of their plants and eagerly observing the growth process. This project not only teaches them about plant biology but also fosters a sense of responsibility and teamwork as they work together to nurture their plants.\r\n\r\nThank you once again for your unwavering support.","fullyFundedDate":1730411659086,"projectUrl":"project/shade-for-the-greenhouse/8781360/","projectTitle":"Shade for the Greenhouse","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Anderson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1862847_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1448828739768","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-anderson109"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_5368","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":266,"numTeachers":29,"percentFrplEligible":75,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":34,"percentWhite":10,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":46,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":"9.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":72.8,"schoolId":5368,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Northside Learning Center on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Northside Learning Center","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/illinois/chicago-public-school-district-299/northside-learning-center/5368"}
