Thanks to your extraordinary generosity, the vision for a truly inclusive and supportive speech therapy environment is now becoming a reality for my students.\r\n\r\nThis project was so important to me because it directly addresses critical sensory and physical needs that often impact my students' ability to learn and progress. I see firsthand how challenging it can be for some of them to stay focused and engaged in a typical classroom setting. That's why the adjustable standing desk you've provided is a game-changer. For many of my students, especially those with sensory needs, the ability to work while standing offers crucial tactile input and opportunities for movement. This flexibility will help them self-regulate, reduce restlessness, and ultimately allow them to engage more deeply with therapeutic activities. This means significant improvements in their receptive-expressive language skills, articulation, and pragmatic communication.\r\n\r\nEqually vital is the dimmable, calming lighting that will soon illuminate our room. The harsh fluorescent lights we usually find in schools can be incredibly overstimulating and distracting for students with sensory sensitivities. This new lighting will create a soothing and comfortable atmosphere, reducing sensory overload and enabling my students to concentrate more effectively on their speech and language goals. It's about creating a space where they can feel calm, safe, and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nThe impact of these additions goes far beyond just new furniture and lights. By creating a space that is physically comfortable and sensory-friendly, we are removing significant barriers to learning. My students are attentive, eager to learn, and incredibly resilient, and now they'll have an environment that truly supports their individual needs as outlined in their Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). This means they can fully access and benefit from high-quality, data-driven therapy, leading to more consistent and meaningful progress in overcoming language deficits, articulation errors, phonological processing delays, stuttering, and social language impairments.\r\n\r\nYour generosity also makes a direct impact on educational equity. This project reaches 60 students from diverse backgrounds across three schools in Chicago, including African American, Latinx, and Arabic students from low-income households. You are helping to ensure that these historically underfunded classrooms receive the resources necessary for every student to thrive, regardless of their circumstances.\r\n\r\nFrom the bottom of my heart, thank you for believing in my students and in this project. Your investment in our speech therapy supportive spaces will directly empower my students to achieve their communication goals, build confidence, and participate more fully in their academic and social lives. You are helping me create a space where every student can truly shine!","fullyFundedDate":1735005477448,"projectUrl":"project/speech-therapy-supportive-spaces-for-inc/8734283/","projectTitle":"Speech Therapy Supportive Spaces for Inclusive Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Elzen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8718259_orig.jpg?crop=960,960,x0,y134&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1663787201511","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-elzen"},{"teacherId":9380692,"projectId":8632411,"letterContent":"I am overjoyed for your generous support, which made it possible for my Algebra classes to obtain a much needed printer.
