Your contribution has not only added a fun and exciting element to our space, but has also opened new doors for meaningful peer interaction.\r\n\r\nPlay is a powerful tool for developing self-esteem, building communication skills, and fostering a sense of belonging. Play is so important for young children, and our indoor play options at recess before were quite limited. This spring we have not merely endured, but actually enjoyed indoor recess these last few months! When students first saw the materials, they were shocked and overjoyed. To temper the excitement a bit, I introduced a few new toys each day so that students could learn how to play the different games and practice safety with some of the large motor activities. This made each day like Christmas for a while! \r\n\r\nIt felt like such a win as an early childhood teacher to watch students with tons of energy or who prefer big motor play get to do basketball, bowling, hop scotch, and egg races instead of being forced to do more seated activities. Students who preferred quieter interactions with friends were able to play sit-down games like high-ho cheerio and connect 4, color with coloring books and beautiful markers, paint with dabbers and stickers, and play \"store\" with our new cash register. Students with more engineering inclinations were delighted to have Lincoln logs, Magnatiles, and Legos to create their worlds with. Now rainy days are met with equal gusto as sunny ones. \r\n\r\nPlease know you have brought great joy not only to 25 first grade students this year and many more students in years to come, but also to their teacher (me) who thinks making school and especially recess more child-friendly is absolutely the way to go.","fullyFundedDate":1739369097702,"projectUrl":"project/help-its-winter-and-indoor-recess-give/9051317/","projectTitle":"Help! Your donation brought so much more than just toys and supplies—it brought joy, creativity, and a sense of excitement that our students will carry with them all year long.\r\n\r\nAs winter settled in and outdoor recess became limited due to cold weather, we found ourselves needing meaningful and engaging indoor activities to keep my students active and happy. Thanks to you, we now have a wide variety of hands-on materials that are helping make indoor recess and classroom time so much more enjoyable and productive.\r\n\r\nThe day the supplies arrived was unforgettable. My students lit up with excitement as we opened boxes filled with play food and dishes, building sets, Legos, Play-Doh tools, markers, paper, and art supplies. Their faces were full of joy and wonder—many couldn't believe all the new things they got to explore and share with their classmates.\r\n\r\nThese materials have transformed our classroom into a place of imagination, collaboration, and creativity. The make shift play kitchen has become a favorite spot for social play and role-playing. Our builders and Legos encourage teamwork and problem-solving. And the art materials allow students to express themselves freely and develop fine motor skills—all while having fun.\r\n\r\nThese resources are especially important in supporting all our learners, including those who need movement, tactile engagement, and creative outlets during the school day. We have created shamrocks, suns, flowers and animals! Most of my students are still in the early stages of language development and acquiring functional communication.
