By funding this project, you have directly dismantled physical and sensory barriers that previously hindered our daily learning. The transformation began the moment we installed the magnetic Blue Sky and Forest light filters over our fixtures. The harsh glare and constant, invisible humming of standard fluorescent ceiling lights used to cause severe sensory fatigue and anxiety for my students. Now, our room is a soft, calming environment where students can remain regulated, comfortable, and focused throughout the entire school day.\r\n\r\nBeyond changing the physical environment, your support provided vital tools that give my students immediate autonomy over their sensory and learning needs. With the Dr.meter noise-canceling ear muffs, students can independently \"turn down the volume\" of the world whenever the hallway or classroom becomes overwhelming. Furthermore, the bulk supply of Velcro rolls and coins has allowed us to build an accessible communication infrastructure. We have used them to secure tactile symbols, choice boards, and visual schedules directly to desks and walls, putting consistent, reliable language right at our students' fingertips.\r\n\r\nYour contributions did not just buy school supplies; they built a space that respects the dignity, communication, and learning styles of every child. You have given my students the physical peace and structural access they need to thrive and show the world exactly how capable they are. Thank you for investing in our classroom community and believing in our students' success.","fullyFundedDate":1705345127487,"projectUrl":"project/visual-literacy-for-special-education-le/8144776/","projectTitle":"Visual Literacy for Special Education Learners!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Emily","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9061760_orig.jpg?crop=288,288,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1685990270882","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/sraemily"},{"teacherId":9061760,"projectId":7439362,"letterContent":"The impact of this project on our daily routine has been immediate and profound. We have used these materials to completely transform our morning meeting and independent work blocks. Every morning, our calendar and weather pocket charts give the students a predictable, interactive way to start their day.\r\n\r\nA specific moment that stands out happened last week during a transition to independent reading. Normally, this can be a high-anxiety time for a few students. Instead, I set our new purple visual countdown timer, and students smoothly selected their regulating tools—one student placed their feet firmly on the tactile animal sensory mats, while another quietly manipulated a sensory water bead maze at their desk. For the first time all year, the entire class settled into focus with a calm, collective sigh. The combination of the silent visual timer and the immediate access to sensory tools has given my students the autonomy they need to regulate their bodies and focus on their learning goals","fullyFundedDate":1690981383287,"projectUrl":"project/accessible-classroom-for-our-special-edu/7439362/","projectTitle":"Accessible Classroom for Our Special Education Students!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Emily","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9061760_orig.jpg?crop=288,288,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1685990270882","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/sraemily"},{"teacherId":8886372,"projectId":10207786,"letterContent":"My class read the first Charlie Hernandez book aloud together and they absolutely loved it. Many of my students were really excited to hear that this is a series and that I now have all the other books in the series so they can borrow them. \r\n\r\nThe other series that my class has loved is the Underland Chronicles (Gregor the Overlander). I have had the first book in the series in my classroom library and every student who reads it aways wants to read the next books. The librarian at my school said we just do not have funds to buy the series, but now thanks to your donation, my students do not need to wait on school funds. My class was super excited to get the other books and keep reading the series. \r\n\r\nThank you so much for donating to my classroom. The main character is bilingual and so Spanish is woven into the book and every time the Spanish is read, I notice my students perk up. It is unique for them to hear their language in a book that we read. I has also been really cool for them to have heard of the myths that come up in the book. When a new myth shows up, one or two students always raise their hand and tell us who told them about that when they were young. \r\n\r\nEveryday before lunch, we read a chapter or two. I play the audiobook and we all listen and follow along in our books. It is so important for the students to follow along in a book as we read because that helps them learn how to pronounce different words and it just builds their reading fluency. It is because of your donation that this was possible. \r\n\r\nThank you so much for donating to my classroom. The donation of the shed has also been a great help protecting our new tools, especially as the weather starts to cool down for fall and winter.
